Hi guys,

I've recently purchased an Olympus VG-120 digital camera. I've installed the setup programme, yet the camera is not being recognised when I connect it to the laptop via USB. Does anybody have any recommendations?

Cheers.

some USB devices with storage devices have a setting to "unmount" the storage card to enable it to be recognised as a USB device. Is that the case for your camera? If so you'll need to find out how to change it in the Camera settings.

I'm not entirely sure what I'm looking for, but it doesn't seem to be the case. I've had a look through the settings and the instruction manual and there is no mention of unmounting the storage card.

It's incredibly frustrating but thanks for the attempt!

Are you not getting anything on your laptop and do the words "USB" not appear on your camera setting when attached (it should be a blank camera screen with the words USB)

When I connect the device, there is a brief few seconds where on the digital camera it says "do not remove USB". My laptop then pops up with a message claiming that there is an unknown device connected to the laptop which it doesn't recognise or has malfunctioned. It's sat connected as I type. The camera is charging so there is definitely a connection, the laptop just doesn't recognise what it is!

So on your computer has it set up a site for storing your download photos ?

Yes, a CD came with the camera and I've installed the setup programme.

Have you looked at where they are stored "my pictures, etc" and does the set up show Download from USB,Transfer,Download from Camera,Download from Computer ??
Just trying various options,as to why its not allowing you access.
Perhaps (cant think who it was now) was correct and you may have to adjust the digi camera settings.
Just looked and it was Prestwich Blue !!

No, setup basically installs two programs which allow me to sort my pictures out more efficiently. It never asked anything like that, unless I'm missing a trick?

I have tried adjusting the settings on the camera itself; the only options are "Auto, Storage, MTP, Print" and selecting any of them makes no difference whatsoever.

I'm stumped! I'm reinstalling set up now to see if that makes any difference.

Just wondering if you havn`t fully completed the download from the CD.
Certainly on mine I have to go into MY PROGRAMMES and link onto the site, where it will then ask how I want to Download and various options, once connected to the USB port.

Yep. All the programs claim they can't detect the camera.

Try another usb port!
Does the camera work on another laptop/PC ?? if not possibly a dodgy cable
What operating system are you on??
open run box and type devmgmt.msc and see if your camera is listed or if there is a yellow exclamation mark here!
Also try turning both laptop and camera off and on again LOL be surprised how often this actually works

You know what mate, the sodding thing actually works now! All I've done since installing the setup was switching the bloody thing on and off again, and it's worked! Driver software was installed successfully and now the programs are working fine.

Thanks for all the help guys. Bloody technology.

Asuming your camera has n SD or SDHC card in it you can dispense with ANY software or drivers at all. Just pop the card out of the camera and stick it in the SD card slot in your laptop - easy peasy, your photos available in an instant for copying onto your hard drive. By far the easiest way, and no messing with manufacturers bundles of bloatware for the obvious simple operations.

Completely forgot about that. I will do this in future! Cheers.
