It's so true. When I was at school a quarter of a century ago the running joke was that women from Eastern Europe looked like shot-putters in the main, whereas today I believe that Slavic women are the most beautiful in the world.

I'm certainly not suggesting that North Korea is a nice place but I do think that we are spoon fed very one sided information by the media.

I remember when were about to invade Iraq and the government decided to send everyone an information booklet on how to cope if we were attacked my terrorists or if there was a nuclear strike. As a teenager at the time I shit myself and I was more than happy to see the army go in to Iraq and defeat those evil bastards before they could get us. I am a little bit more open minded these days.

If I was faced with a choice between living in Seoul or Pyongyang it wouldn't take me long to make my mind up.

I reckon North Korea is an awful place to live.

I've just scanned this and can't really believe what I'm reading. It appears some folk think North Korea is actually alright. I honestly don't know how anybody holding such views could possibly be taken seriously again.
Who the fuck on gods (or Allah, Druid etc;) earth would prefer to live in Pyongyang than Seoul?
If they do, I'm sure they'd just love every minute of it.

Every day we have Bloomberg on in my office and they discuss North Korea. They are always showing us images from inside north korea. You see lots of miserable army folk marching in dismal, grey backgrounds. This week about five minutes after they had shown us yet another worrying clip of them testing their missiles one of the headlines was "Psy breaks YouTube viewing record". Basically the fella who sang gangnam style has released another happy song which involves joking and dancing.

This got me thinking. Is it just a coincidence that a South Korean singer is now a huge global celebrity and the US just happens to back South Korea? I wonder if Psy was from North Korea, would his career be able to flourish like it has now? Also is North Korea as bleak as they make it seem on all the news channels? I think not.

America likes to see things in black and white.
You are either with them, or against them.
No room for shades of grey - that just confuses matters.
Keep it simple, so simple folk can understand what they are told to think.
Go back to sleep America - your government is in control.

The problem, AC, is that some folk are so consumed with their hatred of the US that they are blind to the shortcomings of any nation that is seen as its enemy.

It is a very simplistic and naive way of viewing the world imo. It was the same with trade unionists during the Cold War believing the USSR was some sort of utopia.

I have no hatred toward the US but I think it is difficult to say for definite that North Korea is a horrible place because we only get to hear what the government want us to hear.
