Proud

I'm immensely proud of what we have done this season and the way we have played. I'm proud of so much that the club does on and off the field. As a season ticket holder of 24 years, I consider myself hugely fortunate to be following this city side and this football club.
However, I can't feel pride at the performance in this tie. Yes, we were on the end of some awful decisions from officials at really key times, but all in all, from management to the players, we weren't brave enough. We changed our system in fear of a Liverpool side that, while very dangerous, are not as good as us. On the ball, our key players weren't brave enough to play the key passes or commit their cm and back 4. Liverpool play to kill you in transition; they are tight, press and break with lightening pace and we were terrified of that. So much so that we didn't play our usual game in fear of that turn over. For me, both in the last 15mins at Anfield and tonight, we needed to be braver on the ball and more disciplined without it. We needed to play our game and back ourselves to beat a good, but not outstanding, Liverpool side.

As someone who grew up during our worst times in divison 2, where, in a school of hundreds there was literally a handful of city fans at most and as the only match going blue I got slaughtered every week, I've always been proud to be a city fan and always will. But let's not sugar coat things, the two performances were nothing to be proud of bar the first half of the game tonight. Other than that, we disappointed and I think we went out with a bit of a whimper in truth. 3 shots on target over 2 games is pretty damning and this is against a side who are notorious for leaking goals. I'm proud to be a city fan, I'm proud of the football we play, proud of the season as a whole, I'm proud of my club and everything associated with it but I'm not proud of our performances over this last week and I don't think it's unjust to say so.

The point is to be proud of what we’ve done over the course of the season, not one weeks of football. One week doesn’t change what we’ve achieved this season.

You’ll cheer up soon, like most of us will. The only thing what could change my attitude is if Liverpool win the champions league.

I'm sure you're right mate I'll cheer up in no time, especially if we beat Spurs and I do agree I'm very proud of what we've done this season as a whole, I do disagree slightly with the "one week doesn't change thing" comment though. Maybe it doesn't change too much for us fans other than the disappointment of what could have been but certainly for outsiders and the general consensus, I think their perception of our season will be tainted by this week. I said it elsewhere but rightly or wrongly, in years to come, this season will be remembered for this week more so than the brilliance we've produced for 9 months beforehand. The only way I see that changing now is if we were to break the 100 points barrier.

VAR and we wouldnt have lost at the weekend, and we may not have gone out of the champions league, Even before this week I didnt think we had enough to win the c/l . I expect this team to peak next season with just a couple of additions, Mendy back and Laporte established at centre back probably alongside Stones but think well see much more three at the back.

Just about sums it up for me

Long time lurker but had to sign up and post tonight as I’m fuming.

Proud of the team and fans for giving it a good go but the Sane disallowed goal was a dealbreaker and changes everything.

We really aren’t getting the rub of the green at the minute.

There's a lot on here at the minute moaning at the team and Pep but ultimately I agree with your post, we just haven't got the rub of the green, especially in the two against Liverpool. The key decisions cost us big time. Its a shame that more people can't see that.

Good thread. I was proud of this team first half. Once scouse scored game was over but we are playing in a way that is an art form to watch.
My only worry is that like our last 2 title wins that for some reason we don’t build well enough and improve the team but am sure Pep will if he can get the players
