Others of note as they were in the 1970's, before "improvements" took place.......:(

Waggon & Horses....mine hosts Jack and Mary Padgett........Top of Mottram Road, Stalybridge.

The Miners Arms..Poynton....room to get about fifteen in at a squeeze

The Ladybower Inn.......Snake Pass.....You could get two at the bar if you were lucky

The Bee Hive.....corner of Brandwood Road,Newchurch Road Stacksteads, Bacup......Mine host Cess.........a real drinkers den

The Ye Derwent........near Bamford...great pub

The Marquis of Granby......Bamford....now sadly gone

The Hare & Hounds....Bower Fold Stalybridge, again, sadly no more......

Any more?

The Tatton and The Church in Northenden and of course the Snooty Fox on the parkway - happy days all gone now

The Black Horse on Oldham rd. Failsworth. Ran by close family friends, Gladys and Tom.

Loads in Failsworth Barcon, amazes me how they keep a darts and crib league going.

There's loads gone in Failsworth. That's a Domino's Pizza place now.

Guido, Bulls Head, Cloggers, Half Way House, Forresters, Brown Cow, Bridge. The Pack Horse is For Sale. In fact there's load gone on Oldham Road and the first pub out of town is probably The Lamb now.

As for the OP I didn't know The Colliers as a pub, when did that close? Would have loved to go in there after a walk to Harthead Pike. I can tell where it is from the picture and the Horse and Jockey I cycle up Standedge Road a lot (bloody long hill) and that is still standing in that state of disrepair.

That's right Bill.

They were about 90 and wore shawls......

You actually sat in their living room which was about 10 foot square and drank your real ale, whilst they did their ironing........:)

Another good one (Still going) is the Three Stags Heads just past Peak Forest on the Chesterfield Road.

I used to frequent the Horse and Jockey in the mid seventies, it was a thriving pub, usually packed, with a landlord that looked like Hugh Bonneville from Downton Abbey. There was always a nice blazing fire waiting for you...it's criminal that places like that have gone.

I suspect Drink Driving laws and being on protected water board land killed it off......
