Did I mention I'd been on Eggheads?
Like The Chameleons in the 80's - just how did Puressence not make it big time?
Manchester's (Failsworth's) best kept secret.

I thought they were good. Very good. But I felt they lacked that certain something to make them special. They didn't have the songs, IMHO. Manchester is oversubscribed with emotive, epic Indie Rock bands and Puressence were overshadowed by Doves or Elbow from that generation. Now we have bands like The Courteeners, too.

Funny you say that . I just couldnt remember their name to mention them in your 80`s thread . A mate was jamming with the one of the drummers on Sunday I`ll ask him: to quiz him , remember thinking they were top live years ago. One of the best live acts I`ve seen from M/cr . Seem to remember the line up kept changing . I was working at the Academy of sound where a couple of the lads were working a few years back . They were trying to get a deal and were struggling. Very talented individuals , good call Screamer .

cracking band, loads of quality,
but solid state recital has left thinking they might have done there best.
i hope not

Depends what you class as big? in terms of record sales they are steady but hardly dent the charts, live on the other hand they are as popular as ever. Still touring still selling out every gig they book. Also massive in greece of all places (one of the biggest selling non greek album bands over there).

Alot of people describe jimmys voice as marmite, you either love it or hate it

Always try and see them when they are in town, plus Jimmy is a blue!

Just not quite good enough/bad timing.....either does for most bands in the end.

But hey, if they are making some sort of living out of it, good for them...

Looks like they are making a come back.
They were an absolutely fantastic band with a couple of great albums. I hope the get a little more luck this time around as they genuinely deserve it.

I love Puressence and saw them loads of times in the 2000s and 2010s.
Most recently saw Jimmy as guest vocalist with Humanist, and his voice was still fantastic.
Can't see any info on their return. Is it new material or live shows? Last thing I heard was that Jimmy was still working with The Nihilists and "I am the White Stripes" was getting a bit of airplay on 6Music.

Great band from round the corner from where I grew up in Failsworth. I was mates with one of JM's brothers (same school) and was round at their house quite a bit at one stage. I remember their dog and a City lampshade. Mum was a massive character locally and dad was a quieter guy from Hungary.

I thought they were a great band. Probably too good to make it; they didn't do much poppy stuff. I'm interested to hear the new record when it comes out in the summer, and hopefully see them live.
