Only caught the last 30 mins of what I assume was the last one when it spoke of Medvedev's rise and subsequent "gelding" to leave Putin a free run.

Really interesting and gutted I missed it.

Really interesting and gutted I missed it.

Watched the last one without realising it was a series. Needless to say I have it D/L on iplayer now. A must watch.
The part in the factory with the pen was funny. But it was frightening that he held such power over the business men.
He is a relic of the KGB and I really don't see him as progressive for Russia. Medvedev is a far better candidate for Russia, Looks like he was ousted from within by Putin.

Nah he wasn't, the two had a deal before hand. Also Medvedev started to modernise the economy and now Putin will carry on. Medvedev sorted out most of the corruption and Putin will carry on his work. I don't know why he let Medvedev sort it out but it worked.

If what you posit is correct, then the read o your post explains it all.

Putin = ex KGB ergo his ex friends are the one who are corrupt and need to be got rid of. Putin does not want to be the one to sell his friends down the river so in comes 'fresh face' to tidy it all up and if it is populist, Putin comes back to carry it on and if it is not, Putin comes back to stop it.

Classic win-win or Putin.

Then again that could just be a simplistic and cynical view?

Yes they had a deal that they would decide who ran for the Presidency. Nothing concrete. Medvedev didn't always do as Putin would have liked which was highlighted in the programme. i think this riled Putin. And made him determined to take back the Presidency.


You can clearly see a difference in them both. Medvedev should be the President and Putin in my mind should get out of politics. I really think Putin will change back some of the good work done by Medvedev.

Strongbow is saying that it is a possibility Medvedev (fresh face) was brought in to get rid of Putins cronies because Putin didnt want to tell them himself. Thus continuing a more democratic path into the future.
