Yes it does, a deliberate attempt to play the ball (and actually touching it) resets the play. Even if the intended receiver was offside.

Now in this situation I can't tell who touched it last, need to see it in slow motion, VAR obviously think the last touch was from Ecuador.

either two things happened, #1 the Ecuadorean headed it last = offside #2 the Ecuadorean headed it onto the keepers hand therefore a deflection = offside

doesn't matter either way each option results in offside
