it's semi automated, the ball will ping twice for a ricochet the VAR official just picks the right ping and the computer does the rest. It's offside, all the evidence says it was offside. Whether it's harsh or not is debatable but the rules are the rules

Why not? The sensors detects every time the vector of the ball changes so yes it detects ricochets to within thousandths of a second. It will have told the referee there were multiple touches of the ball in a certain space of time. All the ref does is confirm who touched it and whether the offside player is active in the play. It was clear in this instance the keeper punched it on to the Ecuador players head so the last touch was his.
