QF 1st Leg Post Match Thread

Think what annoys me the most is how un-city like a performance it was. It was just the complete opposite of how we’ve played all season. Ok, so a couple of core players were absent but I could probably count on one hand how many times we strung more than 10 passes together. Was painful at times

Surprising very calm after the match last night. Playing a full strength Spurs team at their new stadium and coming away with only a 1 goal deficit.

It's all to play for and I feel like Spurs needed to score another 1 or 2 in order to make the very difficult for us.

That's what happens when you over think things,we are designed to play attacking football, the lads looked mostly confused, ridiculous decision to change the way we have played since pep got here and expect it to work

Quite a lot of anger on here.

Sure Spurs got a bit lucky and you weren't perfect but still good. The issue seems to be that some of you think it is unacceptable to lose 1-0 at Spurs. That is a little disrespectful. We are not as good as you but we're still pretty good. It is not that much of a disgrace.

I like it on here because there is some civility but today it feels like RAWK.
You're very welcome.

Sorry if the posts criticising Pep come across badly.

It's just that we approached this game differently than we normally do and Spurs are the same team we have been playing for 2-3 seasons. My opinion is that Pep has been stung in the CL before at as Bayern manager and last season by Liverpool so instead of playing our normal game he went for containment but for should have started de Bruyne and Sane

Take that back!

I said it in before the game Spurs aren't canon fodder by any stretch of imagination. It was a bigger game for you for a few reasons(not meant in the way a Liverpool fan or United fan would use the expression) firstly everyone needs to win their home games to have a chance to progress and it's your new stadium(losing your first big game there would have been at the back of your minds), Poch himself getting this far etc.

Also both teams IMO played with a level of caution, 0-0 would have been fairer as neither team created much. Both teams wanting to stay in the tie or maybe both teams defended a lot better than we're giving credit for on the whole.

You got the goal you needed, against the run of play but just as if City score the penalty all that matters is the scoreline come the end of the match, that's the cards we've been dealt.

Delph switching off like he did(again) has angered a lot of people, it was just a poor goal to concede and I can see why people are miffed about it. I think people are being way over the top on Pep(without that goal people would not be saying the same things at all) and they're forgetting Pep only had 2 days to prepare while Poch had 6.

City fans aren't used to losing these days, it seems a small minority don't even like a challenge anymore, they want the whole season to be a cake walk, which is a dangerous mindset to get into(Arsenal fans have learned this) and not realistic.

I was surprised when I saw that. He changes his whole philosophy for some reason and I cant fathom why as its returns are poor.

Top team gets knocked out by another top team in latter stages shocker.

It's Federer losing to or beating Nadal in a last four.

The only common denominator is there can only be one winner in every Cup competition, so Pep's record in the knockout stages is irrelevant.

He changes nothing. He plays for the win. The only thing which changes is the calibre of opponent in the latter stages.

His Bayern team absolutely shat all over Atletico the other year in the semi and still went out.

His City team scored five against a rampant Monaco team and still went out.

His City team scored two perfectly good ruled out goals against Liverpool last season and subsequently went out.

A top tactician must always try to adapt to the increased quality of the opposition, everything after that is down to the players and the fine margins of football.

We have played a lot worse this season and won games.

Off the top of my head, Spurs away, which is irony in itself!

I think we strung more than 10 passes together on lots of occasions......

Laporte to Otamendi to Laporte to Emerson to Otamendi to Delph to Emerson.....and repeat

Did he fuck express fear. If he truly feared Spurs, he would have started every premium starter he had.

The fact he didn't, gives a real insight into his reasoning.

He hedged his bets, knowing we are more than capable of getting the right outcome after two games, with a home tie to favour.

If anything, his team selection actually showed a degree of well-placed trust for what we can produce and what Spurs can't, even in a lower gear.

It's an absolute fucking disgrace that you and others don't wish to give our manager the benefit of doubt.

What part of last season or this season have people not seen from the best manager in the world?

He's earned it and plenty should know better after all this time.

Got be said, I've not read huge amounts of this thread but I've seen enough crap to overwhelm Thames Water's sewage farms.

The manage put out a team to control the game and they did that. Unfortunately, every player, even the very finest, is imperfect and a couple of errors turned what might have been a narrow victory into a narrow defeat.

He will pick a different side in the second leg and it will be one that, if the players perform as they are capable, should turn this around. However, they are human and shit happens so it may not work out but that's football. That people didn't like his team selection from the off and that we lost does not mean that it was a bad plan: no plan when it comes to football is foolproof.

and would we have won? I have no idea, nor have you

Unfortunately we have a number of fans who believe we should steam roller everyone.
If we don’t score within 5 minutes then the team’s shit, and now we’ve taken it to a new level by also saying Pep hasn’t a clue.
