There is a spot next to Yaya open. He is no Alonzo, but he is certainly better for our style than Milner. He was a fantastic player at Getafe.Citizenhill said:He isn't that good, he's moved to QPR to start and if he'd joined here, he wouldn't be starting again. Good, solid player though, basically an excellent squad player for a league champion, as he was at Real Madrid. Definitely good enough to start for QPR though.

Barry is aging, and Granero would have been a perfect competition for him. Younger more athletic and equally cerebral.

-- Thu Aug 30, 2012 8:58 pm --

Anyway, I don't know why we haven't gone for Benat. He would complete our central position. The sdeeplying playmaker we need.Adam-mcfc said:That spot is filled by BarryDax777 said:There is a spot next to Yaya open. He is no Alonzo, but he is certainly better for our style than Milner. I highly doubt Granero is capable of performing the role Barry does with the same tactical discipline. He may be a better dribbler or passer but he's not in the same league as far as defensive capability goesDax777 said:Barry is aging, and Granero would have been a perfect competition for him. What keeps Yaya deep often, is not the fear of not having cover behind him, but rather the apparent inability of the DM to move the ball up seamlessly to the attacking players. Granero can do that favorably. Barry doesn't seat back when he plays the midfield with Yaya. He drifts tactically into dangerous positions and moves the ball adeptly. This is something Granero can do just as well, if not supremely better than Barry. What Barry has on him defensively, Granero can make up for athletically. I think he'd have been a great addition. But we'll never know.Adam-mcfc said:I highly doubt Granero is capable of performing the role Barry does with the same tactical discipline. Having Granero in our midfield two would just force Yaya to play deep, where's he's wasted. Put Barry in and Yaya is free to get forward because he knows he has midfield cover.
