Further to previous answers, I remember seeing Martyn Margetson come on and wear the outfield number 13 shirt and playing outfield. This would have been about 1997/98 or thereabouts I think. It could well have been when there were only 3 subs and he was one.

I'm sure someone else remembers this with more detail than I can.

what about if your keeper breaks a finger and you used all the subs
you have to swop him with a outfield player but you could keep him on and play him with his hand tape up

he could score or make that last min tackle to save you

Did you not see Pantilimon when we played United? Got his head on that corner at the end, but was woeful!
Height isn't everything he needs to know what to do, in my opinion Pantilimon would just get in the way. However if Joe was to go up front, he's just a frustrated striker in my opinion... Have you ever seen his penalties?
