I have lived my entire life in America. My father started me playing football when I was 5, as he didn't want me to play American "Throwball" and get a bad injury like he did. I played through my college years but was only able to watch it on TV when the world cup was on or to catch the occasional college game in person. My wife is from Nottingham and was a big Forest fan and she is one that got me interested in Premier League. Everyone I know liked either United, Arsenal or Liverpool so I knew I couldn't like any of them.
The rules I set out for myself were rather simple at the time. I wanted to pick a team that a)had an American player and b)was not a southern team as my father-in-law said he would rather I support United than support a southern team. So with that in mind it just so happened that Claudio Reyna, one my all time favorite American footballers, had signed for City and they were a Northern Team so 2003 was when my City love affair started. I have never strayed and have since converted my Wife and my four kids to be City fans. In fact my son got into a fight at school last year because one of his classmates said that Manchester City sucked. The Wife made me hide my booming smile and tell him to hold his temper and then laugh at them when we are top of the league. LOL. I guarantee I am probably the only one in this area of the USA that instead of an American Flag flying in front of their house has a City flag instead.
The people I work with think I am boring and crazy as I have no idea what is going on with American sports and couldn't even tell you who won the World Series or the Superbowl last year.
