Always wodnered how people move to america.

Ive been to nyc a few tiems and loved it but i woudldnt know how people move there. They must be pretty clever or rich, otherwise what do you do? just pack yuor bags, get on the plane, then what do u do when you get there? where do u go?

I always get confused by things like this if im being honest.

Tony, I'll PM you or this will go off-topic. Give me a day or so.

I have lived my entire life in America. My father started me playing football when I was 5, as he didn't want me to play American "Throwball" and get a bad injury like he did. I played through my college years but was only able to watch it on TV when the world cup was on or to catch the occasional college game in person. My wife is from Nottingham and was a big Forest fan and she is one that got me interested in Premier League. Everyone I know liked either United, Arsenal or Liverpool so I knew I couldn't like any of them.

The rules I set out for myself were rather simple at the time. I wanted to pick a team that a)had an American player and b)was not a southern team as my father-in-law said he would rather I support United than support a southern team. So with that in mind it just so happened that Claudio Reyna, one my all time favorite American footballers, had signed for City and they were a Northern Team so 2003 was when my City love affair started. I have never strayed and have since converted my Wife and my four kids to be City fans. In fact my son got into a fight at school last year because one of his classmates said that Manchester City sucked. The Wife made me hide my booming smile and tell him to hold his temper and then laugh at them when we are top of the league. LOL. I guarantee I am probably the only one in this area of the USA that instead of an American Flag flying in front of their house has a City flag instead.

The people I work with think I am boring and crazy as I have no idea what is going on with American sports and couldn't even tell you who won the World Series or the Superbowl last year.

CTID!!!

Fucking legend! If you're ever over for a game I'd buy you your own weight in lager in City Square....you can also stay at ours for free (hope to fuck you don't pop up in the Serial Killer thread!!!!)

Gutted!!

Loved reading this thread and now got to the end.

Off to the kipper and hoping for more US stories in the morning.

Just foookin love City! She's been hard to love at times but she's in her sexy as fook mood right now and its the bollocks!

A question for New York Blues.
How far is the Mad Hatter from Murray Hill?
The West Ham game is on when I m there and I ll want to watch it if possible.

From the US and have not had the good fortune to visit CoMS...yet.Planning that trip for next year.

Hate all things big four and their bandwagon US fans. Bastards they are.

Paolo Wanchope can be held directly responsible for my becoming a City fan. Started following him with the Costa Rica MNT because he was from this part of the world and he scored flashy goals, when he scored, which wasn't really all that often enough. Followed him with Derby and West Ham and when he went to City I developed a man crush on the Goat. Feed the Goat and he will score! Been a City fan ever since.

I have two teenage sons who are also City fans. The younger one, I swear, shed tears of joy when he received a Silva shirt for Christmas. He won't admit the tears now because he says crying is for Rags.

I wish I could get Fox Soccer Plus but the bastards don't make it available on cable and I'm Comcast's bitch because cable is the only way to get Phillies games in my area. Fox Soccer TV does great and I recently bought a new computer so I have a nice big screen.

Also, I've been considering a trip to Mad Hatters in NYC (it's only around $100 round trip to NYC by train for me). Nobody I know likes City so it would probably be a solo trip as I wouldn't bring any rag fans. Is it cool for an outsider to just show up?

I just want to say thanks to all the Lads who have posted in this thread. It kept me entertained all through last night at work and it makes for fantastic reading.

One other thing; many on here who were at York away or watched us get stuffed 3-0 by Oxford at home in the "Dark days" wear that as a "Badge of Honour".

For you Lads that drive miles and miles to meet other Blues and knock up a Bar owner at daft "O" clock in the morning -well thats a badge of honour as well in my book.

I was at York away. I fly back for about 5-6 games a year. Stood in 119 for the Villa game. I'm an ex pat in Austin, Texas.

A bunch of blues meet up at Fado pub in Austin for all the games, driving from all over central Texas. We don't miss a game.

Just like to say how amazing it is hearing the stories of how you yanks cottoned on to the blues.I for one think its fantastic!

I'm hoping there is another preseason tour over here in the summer. I imagine we picked up a few people that way.

You need to keep going back though, once every 5/6/7 years isn't enough

And our attendances at the Red Bull New York games wasn't exactly fantastic in a stadium the size of the Reebok. There were loads more Lisbon fans

The groundwork they're putting in over there is fantastic though

Agreed. That's why I hope they come again this summer!

That makes two fans in Oregon. Amazing!!

Three! Cincinnati Blue actually lives here as well. He has retired from posting and just checks in on BM for streams info but he was born and raised in Manchester.

Well i know of a few more, I settled in Klamath Falls for nearly a year after a few years backpacking some 15 years ago, and converted one or two to the blue cause. That back when we were at the lowest ebb in my life as a City fan and were simply just trying to get out of the third tier.
One fella whom I'm still in touch with visited England a few years back, so I took him on the City Tour at COMS (no City home game on when he was here unfortunately). He follows the blues now from Portland.
Anyway, enjoyed reading this thread, I doff my cap to all US based blues, I'm Cheadle based btw, nearly time for a beer and watch City see off Villa.

Me and my family converted a yank taking him to Wembley for the epic play-off final. He still says it was one of the best days of his life and now keeps up with everything blue.

I thought all the yanks were Arsenal/Barcelona/Liverpool fans?

I know two Arsenal fans and maybe three or four Liverpool fans. One buddy of mine likes Stoke but is a Red Sox fan who is thinking of switching to Liverpool.

Everybody else likes United. It's so bad here that when you ask somebody who they like they say "United" like they don't realize there are other clubs. If Fergie got any play here and people saw some of his antics it would be a different story though.

Clearly your Stoke friend has never seen them play.
