I’ve watched one of the new series. It’s not for me. It wasn’t really when Sue Barker presented it either.something like that

A young person won last night's Mastermind first round by by answering questions on Buffy the sodding Vampire Slayer. Not sure there needs to be a massive investigation into "what's gone wrong" with Question of Sport. It's been on the air for 50 years and has aired over 1,000 episodes. Long-running shows like this (reality, magazine, quiz) go stale and they go through phases of interest and disinterest with the public. Can you remember the last time someone mentioned The X Factor to you, or Big Brother, or Supermarket Sweep? It's always the case for shows like this to go in and out of style. Never Mind the Buzzcocks is apparently coming back after years off the air - the public are fickle!
Viewing figures ebb and flow. Presenters change, studios change, formats change, audiences change. It's all about adapting - sometimes shows adapt, sometimes they don't.
Just as an example, to compare it to another BBC quiz show, Mastermind has gone through all sorts of issues over the years - it was dropped in 1997 and ran exclusively as a radio show until 2000, then it was a Discovery Channel show until 2003, when it got picked back up by the BBC and they got John Humphrys in to present. To make it a bit more modern they allowed more popular culture categories for the specialist round, it's generally a chattier and more informal show than it used to be as well and it's currently posting solid viewing figures.
QoS will either bounce back or it won't. If it does, fair play. If it doesn't, it's probably because it's hard to hold peoples' attention for 50 years.
To be fair, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most popular television shows of its time and arguably kickstarted the massive young adult fantasy entertainment boom that's still going strong today. The Lord of the Rings movies, the Harry Potter books and movies, the Twilight books and movies, the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Game of Thrones/A Song of Ice and Fire, even the latest iterations of the Star Wars saga - no matter how good or bad you think those respective properties are, I don't think of any of them would have ended up anywhere near as popular without shows like Buffy the Vampire Slayer (and Charmed, to a degree) getting in there just before the turn of the millennium. Joss Whedon's a piece of shit and the work of his that I've seen mostly bores the life out of me, but his work on Buffy resulted in him eventually making The Avengers in 2012 which (for better or worse) absolutely influenced the next decade of blockbuster cinema. It's not a TV show that's ever interested me personally, but to dismiss it completely, as though it's something frivolous or somehow unworthy of Mastermind, is very unfair. It had a major impact on Western society's cultural development and it deserves to be taken seriously.A young person won last night's Mastermind first round by by answering questions on Buffy the sodding Vampire Slayer.
I give up.
And all this "David, you've scored 8 points..." or "Hayley, you totalled eleven points" etc.
It's a kiddies game show now, not the quiz it once was.
A little more gravitas would not do any harm.
There’s nothing wrong with having the Specialist Subject round on anything they want. To progress through the series they have to have a different specialist subject on each episode.A young person won last night's Mastermind first round by by answering questions on Buffy the sodding Vampire Slayer.

So Buffy is responsible for all that tosh, then. It might have appealed to pre-teens, I suppose. It would perhaps be OK as a jokey "Celebrity" or junior version of MM, but not on the supposedly adult version. Magnus Magnusson will be turning in his grave. Have it as a subject on another quiz or game show, but not on this, please. To be fair, Buffy the Vampire Slayer was one of the most popular television shows of its time and arguably kickstarted the massive young adult fantasy entertainment boom that's still going strong today. I bet Joe Swash is available!Had the telly on BBC1 (watched the 6pm news and then did things around the house) and then QoS came on.
Thought I'd see who the quests are and couldn't believe one of them was a strictly come dancing contestant and another a "star" of Love Island.
Is there a shortage of sports personalities that could go on it?
Telly switched off......
Absolute garbage now… And don’t get me started on Top Gear
