Ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid is thought of fondly by Sunderland fans after he took the club to their most successful Premier league finishes ever. What is your opinion on the former City player and manager?

I loved reidy he always gave his all.

Niall Quinn is a Sunderland and Man City legend also and is regarded probably more highly than any ever former Sunderland player. What is your opinion on the big man?

Quinny will always be loved by us.

Do you really think that you can challenge for the league title eventually, or do you perhaps feel that, like Real Madrid did years ago, just spending loads of money doesn't necessarily determine that the team will work well together?

I really believe we will do the business, just looking at how mancini has everyone working, is enough of a convincer for me.

What are your hopes for your club this season, what is the minimum achievement you expect from Mancini?

Hopes: title, fa cup, double twatting of our neighbours from stretford.

Expectations, top 4, a cup and a decent run in Europe,

What are your thoughts on Sunderland AFC?

Great fans, good board, brilliant stadium and a manager who knows how to manage.

What is your prediction for the game?

Can't see anything but a city win, i'm afraid.

What are your memories of past Sunderland Vs Manchester City games?

Hard fought affairs.

Manchester City player Nedum Onuoha recently joined Sunderland on a season long loan, what can we expect from him?

Ned is a good talent, who can read the game well. He is also a brilliant athlete and i'm sure will do a good job for you this season.

Have you noticed a change in the support you receive at home games since the club came into money? Have you noticed that fans from wider areas have began to support the club?
No. It's the same mates I go with, the same faces in the local pubs, on buses and the metrolink; it's the same people sat around me in the CoMS (decent lads n'all!); it's the same faces on away game coaches, trains and in the pubs near the away grounds. We aren't the Rags!

What is the first game you remember seeing Manchester City play in?
Im not sure about when the first time I ever saw City play on tele was, but the first game I actually went to was as a 6 year old in 1989 when we beat Leicester 4-2 at Maine Road. I remeber seeing how big The Kippax was, the smell of bitter and cigs, having a tartan blanket over my legs, my first ever taste of oxo with pepper in from a flask at half time with a kitkat, and a Trevor Morley hat trick. A day I'll never forget!

If there was one player you could take from the current Sunderland side to play for Manchester City, who would it be?
John Mensah is a very high quality defender.

Ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid is thought of fondly by Sunderland fans after he took the club to their most successful Premier league finishes ever. What is your opinion on the former City player and manager?
I was only young, but I know Howard Kendal had gathered a mix of experience to go with our excellent 1986 FA Youth Cup winners (a team that boasted Neil Lennon, Paul Warhurst, David White, Paul Lake, Ian Brightwell, Steve Redmond etc) some of whom were still in the side come 1991 and had us finish 5th and above the Rags! Reid came in when Kendal did one on us and got a good season out of Kendals team but then I think he'd started to take us backwards and we would just have been a mid table team if he'd would have stayed for any length of time, with Kendal things may have been much more positive. But then when we got rid of Reid we started to dip into being a relegation team and then worse come the late 90's :( So I'd'v settled for a while in mid table with Reid but the relegations and promotions made us Citizens what we are now!

Niall Quinn is a Sunderland and Man City legend also and is regarded probably more highly than any ever former Sunderland player. What is your opinion on the big man?
Well he is one of only 21 in our Hall of Fame. Considering all the players we've had over the years that speaks volumes for, like you say, a City legend and a great player! My biggest memory of him was when Tony Coton brought down a derby player in the box, gave away a penalty and got sent off. Quinn went in nets and saved the penalty, which sent Derby down relegated to Div 2. (We'd relegated Sunderland the week before I think ;) sorry!

Do you really think that you can challenge for the league title eventually, or do you perhaps feel that, like Real Madrid did years ago, just spending loads of money doesn't necessarily determine that the team will work well together?
The difference is that Real Madrid spent a shed load of money on the worlds best players and biggest stars, Figo, the real Ronaldo, Zidane, RCarlos and expected all them ego's could gel together. The facts do show, however, that they actually did win the Champions Lg twice in the period "El Galacticos" all played for them!
City aren't just going out and spending £80m on Messi CRonaldo Drogba Essien Iniesta and Xavi are we? We are cleverly buying young up and coming players AJohnson Milner Balotelli Kolarov Boateng Silva de Jong Kompany Tevez etc etc are all 25 and under. Yes we've spent a lot but if them players would have been sold to different clubs around Europe their combined transfer fees would not have been as high as what we paid for each of them. Clubs just see it's City after their player and stick £10m on the price tag - that's what's bad about all this, not the fact we're buying, the fact clubs think they can help build funds for the debts of these poorly run clubs who aren't financially sound or even insolvent in some cases.
Back to the question, nobody can ever say for sure "yes we will win this and that" because I think we will definately challenge but come the day every game is different and in cup finals or final days of the season a ref's decision, a slip in the box or on off-day for the team could mean we don't win that cup or the league title. But we will challenge, for everything, I'm sure about that!

What are your hopes for your club this season, what is the minimum achievement you expect from Mancini?
I will never demand or expect success from the club, the manager, or the team. Just because we've spent a load of money doesn't mean we SHOULD be winning things. If it happens it happens, if it doesn't we'll brush ourselves down and try again next season. It won't be a tragedy! If we do they can take that childish banner down at The Swamp tho, that'd be nice, and I'll offer to take it down piss on it and throw it in some cocky southern nob wearing the replica top of a team he's never been to watch live! Fuck it, for me I want to win the Europa Lg and take over from there! ;)
Seriously, I'm happy to challenge and not have to worry about relegation or our best players going to a better team. If we win summet that'll be a bonus. But for this season I think we would have a chance of 3rd or 4th in the league and a chance of winning the cup comps we're in.

What are your thoughts on Sunderland AFC?
A big club! You've had some good success, including 6 league titles, that's nowt to be sniffed at! You have a decent sized fanbase but I feel you have a fanbase of fair weather supporters. Teletext fans when you're shit, but they'll turn up when you're doing well. Well I know every sporting club in the world has fans like that but to half your attendance from one season in the Prem to the next season in the division below, whether you're playing someone like Colchester or not, is shameful. One of the reasons the Sheikh bought us is because he was enamoured to see a club get the 8th highest average attendance in the country while in the third tier of football in the same season as their cross town rivals won the treble. That's unprecidented! Sorry if that sounds harsh on your club, but it's true! There was no Sunderland Rovers winning the treble in any ofthe seasons you've yo-yo'd, yet your attendance is dramatically different to when you're in the Prem!

What is your prediction for the game?
I think Steve Bruce is a good manager, for a dirty Rag bastard! And I think he'll build a decent side up there for you. But if we're serious about finishing in the too 4 we should win. I'm going City 2-0!

What are your memories of past Sunderland Vs Manchester City games?
Not got that many as I've only been up to SoL once and was a bit young for aways when you were at Roker. Went on a Tuesday night up there a few years back, didn't realise I was being picked up at midday so had to sneak out of work without them knowing early and had a top piss up, had to ring in sick on the Weds.

Manchester City player Nedum Onuoha recently joined Sunderland on a season long loan, what can we expect from him?
As a defender off the ball he's pretty solid. A good marker, a good tackler, he's very string and he'll be the fastest man in the squad because he's lightning. But I do feel technically with the ball at his feet he's a little flawed. I think he got through the Academy on the basis of his size, strength and speed as that is so effective at the younger levels.

Just seems to be the same as ever

What is the first game you remember seeing Manchester City play in?
My first game was against Derby County in the Worthington Cup as it was called back then in 1998.

If there was one player you could take from the current Sunderland side to play for Manchester City, who would it be?
Nedum Onuoha - better than Richards

Ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid is thought of fondly by Sunderland fans after he took the club to their most successful Premier league finishes ever. What is your opinion on the former City player and manager?
Bit before my time really

Do you really think that you can challenge for the league title eventually, or do you perhaps feel that, like Real Madrid did years ago, just spending loads of money doesn't necessarily determine that the team will work well together?
I don't know when but I have a lot of confidence that City can challenge for the title, probably within the next couple of years.

What are your hopes for your club this season, what is the minimum achievement you expect from Mancini?
Minimum I expect is 4th place

What are your thoughts on Sunderland AFC?
Decent mid-table team, will struggle to ever be more than that.

What is your prediction for the game?
2-1 City

What are your memories of past Sunderland Vs Manchester City games?
I think we have a pretty good record against Sunderland, plenty of decent memories. Foe scoring the last City goal at Maine Road, Vassell's comedy scuff that went in, Samaras' brace when he looked fairly good immediately after signing.

Manchester City player Nedum Onuoha recently joined Sunderland on a season long loan, what can we expect from him?
Good solid defender, reads the game well, fantastic athlete, injury prone.

I've had a soft spot for Sunderland ever since they beat dirty Leeds in the 1973 FA Cup final, though I've gone off them in recent years, due to some of the managers they've appointed.

Have you noticed a change in the support you receive at home games since the club came into money? Have you noticed that fans from wider areas have began to support the club?

More supporters. Ground is full again, but I don't know whether they are from Manchester of further afield.
What is the first game you remember seeing Manchester City play in?

Sheffield United. Early 70's
If there was one player you could take from the current Sunderland side to play for Manchester City, who would it be?

None. I rate Gordon and Bent

Ex-Sunderland manager Peter Reid is thought of fondly by Sunderland fans after he took the club to their most successful Premier league finishes ever. What is your opinion on the former City player and manager?

Useless manager. If you want to know why English football is technically inferior part of the answer lies with coaches who think the game is about diags, tempo and energy.
Niall Quinn is a Sunderland and Man City legend also and is regarded probably more highly than any ever former Sunderland player. What is your opinion on the big man?

A good footballer who was under-rated because he looked a little ungainly. As a Chairman I have to question his appointments of managers: Keane, Sbragia and now Bruce.
Do you really think that you can challenge for the league title eventually, or do you perhaps feel that, like Real Madrid did years ago, just spending loads of money doesn't necessarily determine that the team will work well together?

We will challenge, but maybe this season is too soon.

What are your hopes for your club this season, what is the minimum achievement you expect from Mancini?

Top 4 is generally expected. Much depends on how long it takes to get the best from the new signings. Majority are injured. Boateng has huge potential and may prove to be the best of all the signings

What are your thoughts on Sunderland AFC?

Great fans. Poor manager

What is your prediction for the game?

1-1

What are your memories of past Sunderland Vs Manchester City games?

The first ever game at SOL when Gio scored a pen for City but you won. Think SKP scored that day when he was still "unknown"

Manchester City player Nedum Onuoha recently joined Sunderland on a season long loan, what can we expect from him?

Very good player - if he stays fit. Equally good at full-back and central defence. Very quick and strong, and he'll get better with confidence.

just like to say ,when you beat leeds at wembley the entire country became mackems(apart from leeds obv).Cant remember why but the press always referred to sunderland as 'the bank of england' in the 50s , len shackleton used to put thousands on the gate, charlie hurley was a monster. Noisy fans, great chairman ,shame about elephant man,3- 0 to City

Just like to say thankyou to everyone who has commented, I have always had a soft spot for City because of a story my Dad told me. He was one of 10,000 Sunderland fans that piled into Maine Road to see us get relegated (can't remember the year) and he told me that after the game, City fans openly wept with the Sunderland supporters such was the strength of feeling for fellow loyal fans.

You wouldn't get that from many other supporters. :)
