Fuzzmaster101 said:So, pray tell, who are these managers who could have brought in better players than Hughes and who do you think these players would have been? Ribery, Messi, Benzema, Kaka, Aguero, Terry, Puyol, Yaya Toure, etc etc? Dream on! I bet you can't name one player who would have definately come here under another manager to a club with money, yes, but one without recent European pedigree and even recent domestic league sucess (i.e. even a top 6 finish).
I understand you are entitled to your opinion and you must have your reasons for it, but I'm damned if I can see what they are. Please enlighten me.
No point naming managers as there are many, but as unfathomable as you find my opinion, I find yours equally so that you don't think Mark Hughes would be a drag on selling the aspirations of the club as a world force.
If we had a manager of world reknown (as would befit our status as the world's richest club TM) then players would expect us to be in the CL sooner rather than later, thus easing their worried little minds that they would be making a move into the wilderness by taking a chance on City - a move that they would regret and have to rectify by moving again if we cock it up.
With Hughes, rightly or wrongly, the debate rages on about whether he will succeed, or whether he will be sacked (he is, after all, favourite for the boot), and a player could move, the manager be replaced and then be out of favour with the new boss.
If I was a player umming and ahhing over taking a punt on Man City at this point I would be far less likely to jump in our direction if there was so much doubt about the ability of the manager and insecurity surrounding his job ON TOP of the worry that it will be years before we make the CL.
We are already asking players to trust us and put a lot of faith in 'the project' - we would look a lot more serious about it if we had a proper manager with a winning track record. In my opinion of course ;-)
