I know he's a physics buff but in order to blow a car up in a crowd surely there would be a big overhaul needed. U would have to actually turn it into a bomb rather than just put a timer on it that starts the engine.

Exactly and doing so would be illegal. Hence my point.

The reason for the question is that I am/was having a debate with damocles about guns and cars.

I pointed out that guns are used to kill people in massacres (not cars), damocles countered saying that blowing a car up in a crowd would be an easier way of killing many people. When I pointed out that explosives were illegal (and you can't have a license willy nilly) he stated that a car is a metal box of explosions and as such, can be considered an explosive.

This thread was to show that logic to be way off.

I'm not totally convinced that the people doing the killing are that bothered about the legalities of their methods.

But many (certainly the majority of) gun massacres are committed with legally held weapons. That's why banning them could be seen as a way of reducing their number (both here and overseas). Damocles was arguing that a car was just as dangerous as could be legally held and used to blow up people.
