R.I.P Academy

Zin your the biggest WUM on the board, how anyone can take you serious i have no idea.
I put you in the same category as TFM for being ITK!!!

the thing that impressed me most with the barry deal was the speed with which it was done. i heard a report on the radio that he was in talks next report having a medical next one signed, all over in a couple of hours.

Unfortunately, the demise of the Academy (certainly compared to its status of reacent years) is natural collateral damage of being in a position to buy the best players around.

Having said that, while a couple have made it biggish in the PL, i actually feel we over tout our Academy abit, a lot of the players who have made it to the 1st team have then dissapeared to the lower divisions all to quickly.

From what I believe the owners really want to drive the academy. I get the whole buy the best players thing but the profile of the club they are driving is heavily investing in the relationship with the fans and local community. My son is in a local school and they get the coaches in every other day with lots of events during half terms. This for me shows their intent on keeping the ties between the fans and the "group". they're also aware that the fans love to see youth from the academy coming through. I firmly believe that this will continue in the future. Whether they will be local lads or not is a different question.

I agree, however being able to play the long game with a kid, think stevie Ireland, will no longer apply.
Example already being seen with such kids as Curtis Obeng, fantastic prospect, touted 12 months ago by baconface..fact, a little dip in form which all kids experience sees him released, even if it hasn't been in the public domain, he's looking for a club as we speak, a kid capped at all levels internationally and we have no place for him...... Sven was ready to offer him a 3 year deal before thickskin shinawatra put a block on all contracts, then sven is sacked, new manager takes a look and concludes differently, i'm not second guessing him but I can tell you for a fact that 90% of the academy are scared to death of Hughes philosophy on management and the exodus will begin sooner rather than later, closely followed by Cassell, no way he'l sit around and watch everything he has built get a fresh lick of paint.

Yeh, dont get me wrong fella, the Academy itself is fantastic and i believe we will still be turning out quality young players and i would hope it will still be predominantly local boys. Its just what happens at the end of their time at the Academy that i believe will change dramatically. Hughes has already shown he is not into giving youngsers too much 1st team opportunities and that can only get worse when we are buying in all our positions. Our young lads will unfortunately be farmed out to other clubs........and that will be the best that most of them could hope for. imho.

We've paraded 3/4 academy signings at half time this season... hardly the end looking at that. Perhaps Obeng stopped developing.

Lets see if he's picked up by utd this summer.

yes we have but realize that this will become fewer and far between as the overhaul of the squad takes shape this summer.

We should pull out all the stops to get people in from Arsenal and Barcelona and learn from their academies.

It is very exciting being linked with these top names and even better when we see someone like Robinho play for the club but I'd like to think that once we establish ourselves as a top club we will become much more self sufficient. Wenger's dealing in young players has been phenomenal and is something we should aspire to.

where do you think all these players come from? they all come from one academy or another.
its the old addage if you are good enough etc
i'm sure we will continue with our great work to produce talent, as been said the bar has been raised.

Ive seen plenty of Academy players paraded at some point over the past few years but never seen em make the 1st team starting line-up. All i am saying is that it will now get even harder to make the 1st team when we are buying in what we need and where we need them. Thats an almost certainty.
