R Lee Ermey RIP

The story goes that he was only there as a consultant but when Stanley Kubrick saw his performance in the warm up he was given the role.

Watched the first part of FMJ yesterday. Up to the part where Pyle shoots him... Bit surreal.

I'm going to watch something with someone United related in it tonight.

Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, your Senior Drill Instructor.
Gone to the big artillery range in the sky.
Where God,with the help of a few marines will defeat communism.
God has a hard on for marines because we keep heaven packed with fresh souls.
You can give your heart to Jesus, but your ass belongs to the Corps.
Semper Fi, Do or Die, Gung Ho Gung Ho Gung Ho.

Sad news. I absolutely love the opening scenes of FMJ.

Only just read that the film was shot in England, I never knew that.

I reckon he's somewhere having a tremendous non-scripted rant at someone.

RIP Gunny.

Full of so many great scenes and quotes.

Most of his work was shot in England after he moved here. A reclusive genius.

Misread the title and thought this was going to be about Dick Emery, a small difference.
Both basically thespians I guess.
