Any new games i download and put on my R4 don't work (the screen goes white). Does anyone know whether my R4 is outdated now ( about 3 yrs old) or can i simply download a new kernel or firmware ?? any help appreciated.

Not sure if it's outdated mate but I know that they are doing 'new' ones at Bowlers, may be worth asking them on the stalls, they are called R4 Gold I think, I remember being told about Nintendo cracking onto the R4 card and blocking them via firmware but the 'gold' gets round it somehow.

two questions:
1) What firmware you got on it now?
2) Is it a genuine R4 or one of the knockoffs? this is important - not all f/w works on all R4s. Either way, unless your R4 is broken you do not need to buy a new one.

This is really weird I had the same problem this morning ain't used it for ages either :( I think most the new games are only gunna work on the R4 GOLD mate :)

when i turn the ds on it comes up with v1.18 in bottom left of screen and my R4 is Revolution mate.

if like me you have the R4 upgrade (revolution), then you could be buggered....although, tbf, i haven't had time to install it on the r4 revolution yet and test it....i'm just going off what i have read on the net

All sorted thanks to Bluetonium, downloaded wood r4 1.17, saved my games to my pc, re-formatted my sd card, un-rared wood 1.17 and installed rpg and ds_menu file to the sd card then copy/paste my games off pc back onto card, all done.
