Racist Pato

It's racist and stupid. Go to Africa and greet locals by painting your skin black and see how it goes.

I am absolutely livid. Its racist and condescending and there is no need for this in the 21st century.

Good to hear. However, please can you explain to me how it's racist?

Sorry for my ignorance :P.

Yeah and Robinho did it too. Disgraceful!
You can't even recognize one of our biggest former signings? That was Emanuelson at the end (clearly indicated by the letters on the back of his shirt?)

I don't know what sort of world some of you Englishmen grow up in, but it must be covered in racism!

That gesture is not at all recognized as racist in Brasil, as a matter of fact Brasil has the highest Japanese population outside of Japan so it's not like they aren't used to seeing them.

He clearly wanted to gesture hello specifically to the East Asian fans and didn't know any better way to go about it.

Cannot see how this is racist...

It may not be racist but it's pretty offensive. If you don't understand that, I fear for your intelligence.

Intelligence?

Buddy there's a thing called culture out there, might do you some good if you learn about others. Even if some stuck-up white person is offended by this or even an Asian, they have to understand this wasn't at all meant in any sort of racist fashion and is common in his culture. It might not be the best way to represent his affection to the Chinese supporters to the rest of the world but to him it was perfectly fine.

Get a grip, some of the garbage going on in today's world and you lot are calling out a footballer of all people.

Oh ffs guys talk about a mountain out of a molehill.

Ok its in bad taste but not deliberate. They just dont get certain social nuances it seems, nothing more.

tl;dr bad form not malicious though.

didnt really make it clear did I- I know pato is brazillian but was pointing to the sad fact that many ac fans probably wont care as from my experience many italians I have met have a real problem with other races (though obviously not all of them) and it reminds me of something an aussie sportsman would pull

well, I see your point. However, Ignorance isn't any excuse. If I wear a swastika under the assumption it's just a cool tattoo, that doesn't stop it being offensive. Many chinese people have interpreted this as offensive. What position are you in to dismiss these claims?

-- Sun Aug 07, 2011 3:42 am --

Precisely this. He's not a bad guy for it. However, it was offensive. I like to have debates, sorry for instigating.
