Radio memories

The post match phone in with James (H Reeve) and the Doc was probably the best radio content I've ever listened to.
I rang up and got to talk to them after an FA cup game against Barnsley. I think i was 16. My Mum recorded it and I thought I sounded awful. I made Liam Gallagher sound as if he was royalty.

Radio Manchester mid week night games I think Ian frain was our commentator with the Rockford Files theme tune for the show.
I do miss a decent commentator on RManc. Given up and listen to Ally Mann now on website if not near TV. Much better.

Brian OH No Clark and Richard Gorilla Keys doing the Scum.

Yes I have a horrific Manc accent whenever I hear a recording of myself

I sound like the infamous DaySaver massiv.

I remember Heart NW used to have an evening phone-in with Gary Owen & Mickey Thomas that was good to listen to. They also did a football quiz where you stayed in it as long as you got the questions correct. I got through and got the first question I was asked wrong :o)

Getting back to the car after a home game had finished at 4.40 on a Saturday afternoon and hearing the words it’s ‘ sports report’ and the tune. Still iconic hearing the tune on a Saturday even though times have changed.

Then the results read out where you predicted the away team by the sound of the voice.

My earliest memory of the radio was in 1970,it was the ECWC not sure what round, but I remember the commentator saying that the city fans were singing for the team to score 5 as we were 4-0 up at that point, and we did, anyone remember that game ? The old steam radio was the only way I could keep up with news and games on city while still in Ireland

It wasn't Schalke 04 in the semi final second leg was it ? If it was, I was relying on the BBC and they announced it as City 1 Schalke 5 before correcting it. Gave this 11 year old a heart attack !

The FA cup draw on a Monday lunchtime. Hearing Graeme Kelly with Bert Millichip and Ted Croker drawing the balls.

Kelly had a boring voice and sounded like he read off a pre written script.

Also remember on Radio Manchester listening to commentary but missed the opening 2 minutes of Newcastle away. Tuned in as they were talking about an error by Carlo Nash without mentioning the score. Then realised we were already behind. Optimism shattered immediately.

Bryon Buttler and Peter jones on radio 2 was something to behold no agenda no bias just sheer descriptive pleasure , Jimmy arnfield and Denis Law would do the summerising during the second half full commentary.
Sky and talksport and 5 live are not fit to carry the bags of equipment.
You must have read my mind as I was going to post the same about Butler & Jones. Brilliant commentary and they could make the dullest game sound exciting.

Then we got Alan fucking Green.
