Think Jimmy Armfield was a Mancunian ?
Although he will always be remembered as a Blackpool legend.
He was indeed an accomplished radio reporter who seemed to love the game...
Youngsters wont have a clue BUT listening to the FA Cup Draw on a Monday lunch. People used to gather round a radio and hold your breath waiting to see who you got in the draw made at Lancaster Gate!
They made it on a Saturday evening in December in 1976, just after we'd lost at Elland Road. I was staying with a City-supporting mate who lived in Leeds, and we were walking back into Leeds after the game. I had my transistor radio with me in my bag, and we were listening to the draw surrounded by dozens of Leeds fans listening in.
The draw came out "Leeds United will play Manchester City" and I was just about to say "Shit. We've got to come back here again" when I realised where I was and what would happen if they found out we were City fans. So I put on my best West Yorkshire accent and said "We've got City again lads" and carried on walking back into Leeds unmolested with all my new mates.
