Johnson is worth every penny. Liverpools game is based on dominating possession - Johnson gives them attacking credibility on the right. He's easily the best attacking right back in the league.
It was a complex deal, as Liverpool still owed Spurs money. I think the long and short of it was that the 6 months Keane was at Liverpool cost them £4m in net terms. Given the original deal was for £20m on a 4 year deal, that equates to £5m a season. So Liverpool "lost" money on him but it was relative peanuts.
