For the lot always slating his technical ability, look at Sadio Mane. Just as scrappy, and I wouldn't be against calling him a world class footballer. Sterling has his flaws but I think he could reach a higher level than Mane is at right now.

He's already better than Mane is. Sterling is one of the best wingers in the world for his technical ability.

anyone slating his technical ability can't have ever played football. to get past players the way he does you have to be one technically talented footballer. id argue he already is better then mane

Mane is a better finisher than Sterling. That's the difference and the reason why Mane is already into double figures for PL goals this season (22 apps, 11 goals).

If Sterling can improve that side of his game then he'll double his current best tally over a season easily.

Different position, as well. But Sterling does need to improve his finishing, getting a shot off earlier rather than doing a 'Silva' & hanging on to it, too long, is one key area.

Different positions ever so slightly. Mane regularly starts right and switches across the front three like Sterling.

Personally, I think the difference is that Mane is an opportunist. He's currently living for those chances he gets in front of goal or the defender takes too long on the ball and he's seizing those opportunities. There's nothing he can do which Sterling can't, he just looks grounded in the present moment when he gets his chances whereas Sterling looks like he struggles to pick an option and has an instinct to try for an assist rather than go for goal.

That being said, he's come on leaps and bounds this season and I think that we will be saying the same this time next year and the next after that.

I would agree with that. Slightly different position but he is Liverpool's primary goal threat. Both Firmino & Courtinho drop and look for him. Sterling is not as integral to us for goals.

I think Mane is an excellent player, arguably there's only he, Sanchez and Hazard I'd consider signing in that role in the league.
And I wouldn't want to swap Sterling for any of them.

Yes but usually his first job is attacking, often through the middle, in a team which doesn't have a genuine striker. Sterling's first job is is pulling out wide & often playing as a wide man, at both ends, in a team which does.

Why not? I guarantee the fans of the respective clubs of those three players would all say they wouldn't swap their man for Sterling and they would be right. All three are better players and Sanchez and particularly Hazard are at a level that Sterling will never reach.
