Ramadan

If they live over 20 miles from Carrington, or do 40 miles round trip there and back, then they are exempt from fasting. Travellers do not have to fast during Ramadan...... so when they travel back from London tomorrow they will not have to fast.....

That's the first day sorted, then ;)

DB - is it 7.30pm they start serving then? I've been getting conflicting reports. Luckily I'm only gonna catch the very end, but I'll need to be prepared for next year...
It changes each year as it moves nearer to the middle of the year.

Was around 6.10pm in my first year here in 2006, but sunset isn't until about 7.20 at the moment which is a bit annoying ;-)

Will get earlier as the month moves on though

-- Tue Aug 10, 2010 10:00 pm --

Ramadan's not a legal obligation, it's a personal choice. If they choose to do it, they will do it without any opt-outs, which I'm pretty sure is what Kolo did last year. Tough going in the long August days of England though.

It's not actually an opt out - it merely defers the days that they have to fast, and as for legal obligation - it is under Sharia law
TBH, I'm not that clued up on it, which is why I asked in the first place. I know a footballer could opt to fast in the close season instead, but I understand that Kolo didn't do that last year (if it's him I'm thinking of).

And while I know it's pedantic, it's Sharia, not Sharia law.

Ah good stuff. I'll stock up at Duty Free when I arrive then. I'll barely even notice! We were wondering how muslims get by in Northern Scandinavia when Ramadan falls during the 6 months of daylight. That's gotta be ballache. Mind it'd cut down on Al Qaeda's activities if they relocated there...

I remember Nic Anelka struggling with this one.

I also see from the UAE Blues website that everyone has to drink juice on Saturday until after the game. Good luck lads in the new room.

Am i right in thnking Sharia Law actually just means Law Law?

Firstly, Sharia or Sharia law is not the official law system of any country in the world.

If a Muslim wants to fast it is up to them.
Kolo and Yaya both fast every day including match days, as do some of the reserve and youth players.

Yep suli montari (spelling) at inter milan did it last year and morhinio commented that he thought it effected his performances with a lack of energy and as far as i remember he was dropped throughout Ramadan as a consequence

What a stupid remark!
