Used to have loads on Betamax starting with Ipswich semi final.Threw them all way as Betamax was replaced by VHS.Also
had loads of top of the pops on Betamax.

Does that come under "destroying evidence pertaining to Operation Yewtree"? ;-)

Recently found the 4-2 win over Bolton from the Sven year, completely forgot I had that. Includes goals from Vassel and Etuhu

Absolute Collecters item that one!

Not to mention one of only four that Bianchi scored for us.

Come to think of it, Didi Hamann didn't exactly score a lorry load for us, either.

I too had the 2-1 victory at Villa Park on VHS for years, but in a space-saving exercise, it went to the dump, along with all our other videos. I watched it several times over the years and that game featured another rarity; a Peter Reid goal.

Somebody once told me that was the first game we'd won on live TV since the 1969 FA Cup final.

. I also used to sit with remote poised to get any little snippet in the days when you only got to see certain games so I've got a BBC news clipping of the 2-0 win at Spuds in 1986 which was our only away win for ages plus the 2-2 at the swamp and 4-5 full members cup defeat on consecutive dates.

So I'm not the only one then :)

I've got a few compilation tapes which I made using your method with loads of random matches on it from back in the day, far too many to mention, but it includes such gems as the 5-1 v Charlton promotion game, the 5-1 derby, the 2-1 v Liverpool game when White got that was-it-or-wasn't-it-over-the-line goal, 2-1 v QPR in the cup ...etc ...etc ...etc. as well as loads and loads of defeats

I've also got every season review tape/dvd since 1988/89 except for 2 of our relegation seasons (1997/98 and 2000/01)

How sad am I?

I've lots of old VHS stashed at my folks house and on them there's lots from the 80s including the 5-1 and 10-1 not to mention stunners like a 1-1 draw with Watford in the cup. Talking of the 5-1, they sold the VHS of it at Maine Road that season for £14. Seems a bit steep these days given that was 25 years ago and a ticket for the Main stand was only about 8 quid!

Videos must have been exensive in those days. I recently found the season review of the 1991/92 season(may have been 92/93) on video. The price on it was £14.99!

Would like to know if anyone has the game against Notts County sometime in the eighties or even the goal.

Cant remember the year but Melrose scored a goal in the first half (my memory is probably exaggerating here) where he took a clearance on his chest, on the half way line, turned and volleyed it in the net.

Would love to see it again, I remember that for the rest of the first half that goal was all we could talk about

So glad someone else remembered this goal. I my mind it is the best goal I have ever seen live but always think my memory may be exaggerating how good it was. My recollection of it is similar. Ball kind of came over Melrose's shoulder as he was crossing the halfway line. He chested it by which time he was probably at the edge of the centre circle in the opposition half and then smashed it in on the full volley from what must have been at least 45 yards. From memory no cameras at all their

I will never forget this goal, along time ago but it was far better than Saint David’s long range effort that the TV always show.

Maybe wishful thinking but I am sure I saw it again, on MOTD or Granada news/Elton Welsby

Would love to see it again and if a copy does exist it would be a treat for younger City fans to see

I'm pretty sure there were no cameras there at all that night, here's an article from my website.

I've got a rare 87/88 season review called Life with The Blues Home and Away which I converted from vhs to DVD plus hundreds of other games that I converted, if anyone's interested in copies of any games on DVD please inbox me and I'll let you know what I've got. Not really looking to make a profit so will just charge £2 inc p&p per disc if interested. (hope this is okay Ric?)

That goal will have stuck in the minds of all 20,000 or so that were there to see it. It wasn't a live televised match and I can't honestly recall it being shown in the highlights programme on Sunday afternoon. The guy who gets hold of all those brilliant vids for the mcfcvideos channel on youtube hasn't found any film of it yet but we live in hope. (Excellent description of the goal btw.)

Back on topic I used to have a shedload of 80s and 90s games on vid but had to bin them recently as the quality had faded badly over time.

Leeds 1-2 City from 83/84 season was a bit of an odd one in the collection, I was working and couldn't make the match but for some reason the club arranged for production of a full 90 mins VHS tape and sold it via mail order.

Leeds originally filmed the match for their fans. Realizing it probably wasn't going to be a bestseller in their club shop they tried to cut their losses by passing it on to City. Seem to remember this explanation being mooted in the next City home programme where the tape was offered for sale to the discerning blue.

That Melrose goal wasn't covered by TV at all. I know because I've looked for it extensively. But I have the memory of it so I guess that's a bonus.

I have hundreds of videos in the loft, most of which are City games, either live or highlights. Obviously the 10-1 and the 5-1. Other ones that immediately spring to mind are Bernabia's debut v Birmingham, the 4-1 away at Oxford when Gio scored a brilliant hattrick.

I also have cassettes up there from radio commentaries I taped whilst I was at the game ! Even I think that is sad. There's some good ones though. The game at home to Newcastle 3-3 was good to listen to again.

I have the City! documentary on video from 80/81. Still makes good viewing.

2-1 win over Villa the season Kendall took over.

Peter Reid got the winner and it pretty much meant we'd stay up.

what a game. saw the goals again recently.
bedlam on the terrace behind the goal.
still one of my fav ever away games. villa top, us bottom, city win 2-1.
briliant day out.
I was at this as well, absolutely rammed behind the nets, blues everywhere, what a day out...agree one of the best away days. I've got some tapes of city touring Australia playing 5-a-side, well I think it was Australia...the days of Redmond White and co...also the 10-1 and frank worthington at half time saying it won't be ten! Still got Notts county away in the fa cup on tape as well (motd version) when Coton cracked that fan after the final whistle, don't mess with TC!!
