Rangers thread 2024/25

I'm guessing that a certain poster might be along, suggesting the Celtic team of 1967.

Me? I'm staying well clear, thanks very much.
You were correct. And quite rightly, any discussion regarding best ever Scottish club side should begin and end with Celtic in 1967. But then predictably, the nonsense starts. The Rangers posters start putting anyone and everyone above Celtic's European Cup winners - "I'll tell you this, Falkirk's League Cup quarter finalists in the 80's were better than Celtic by the way, the swine that ye are" and then you know who turns up with the equally ridiculous claim that today's Celtic team are as good as a Rangers team who were a goal away from the first Champions League final.

People are allowed to have a different opinion.

The Celtic that won the European cup played nobody until the final… according to many!

It was easier to win European Cup as it was down to the luck of the draw. As we saw with Celtic that season

Many older Rangers supporters point to the Barca Bears who had a far more difficult route to the final in 1972

Aberdeen 1983 were the last club side to beat Real Madrid in a European Final and then followed it up by winning the European Super Cup. Still the only Scottish team to win two European Trophies

Rangers 1992/93 went undefeated in all competition for something like 50 games. I’d argue it’s much more difficult to compete in Europe then than the 1960s as in the 90s European clubs we’re signing the best players in World football not just local / home grown talent.

Rangers 92/93 beat the European Champions , champions home and away. Beat the English Champions home and away and they had just knocked out the German champions. Nobody is ever going to convince me the Hately Red card against Brugge , ruling him out the decider in France, was legitimate. We’ll never know what would have happened if available but the French had said earlier he was the player they feared. A great team undefeated against great opposition. In fairness Marseille were more than decent.

As I said it’s my opinion and that doesn’t detract from other great Scottish clubs such as United 1983/84 or Hearts 1985/86 teams.

It’s just a shame we don’t have the same level of competition these days

Now this is my kind of post. I love this sort of thing and couldn't really argue with any of it. Incredible achievements from each team mentioned - I remember the Dundee United team for bizarre reasons. I don't know much about the Hearts team you mention.

Celtic are the my exception to the rule that every club buys success. To win the European Cup with all Glaswegian players (maybe one was from 30 miles outside?) is an amazing piece of history. They also beat the Champions of France, Switzerland, Yugoslavia, Czechoslovakia and Italy. Inter Milan had beaten Real Madrid on their way to the final. To me, they edge all others but you're right - it's all about opinions and you've backed yours up brilliantly. I'll wait for the reasoning why this Celtic team is in the same class as your 92/93 team but reckon I'd be well advised not to hold my breath.

Thanks for the time taken to write this post out mate. Follow, follow...

Don’t hold your breath.

I’m never going to play down Celtics achievements ( that’s probably not strictly true) or Aberdeens or any other Scottish clubs. All great teams I posted above why I hold my believe and most Rangers don’t even agree with me as they have the Barca Bears above all

The Hearts team of 1985/86 should have won the league but Albert Kidd scored two late goals for Dundee and St Mirren lay down to Celtic losing 5-0. Nightmare of a night in Paisley!!! I’ll never forgive St Mirren for that

Totally laughable the Barca Rioters are the best, ffs. You only got in the competition because we won the league and the cup. We went on to win another 3 titles. Your best team couldn’t get near us.
They beat Rennes , Sporting Lisbon, Torino in quarter final and Bayern Munich in the semi final

Celtic beat Vojovodina in the quarters and Dukla Prague in the Semi Final : ))))))))

I’m allowed to have an opinion different from yours. I’m also allowed to be wrong. Ffs your rant the other week you got nothing right : )) Its what makes Football Forums
