Raith Rovers are set to strike a ‘co-operation agreement’ with Rangers after fans gave the deal the green light.

An overwhelming majority of the supporters asked for their opinions on the tie-in have backed the move.

The Stark’s Park outfit polled almost 1,500 season-ticket holders after insisting they would consult with fans on any partnership proposal with the Ibrox club.

Of the 988 responses received over the weekend, they say 85.4 per cent voted in favour

Some supporters had previously voiced concerns over becoming a ‘feeder club’ for Rangers, or over losing out because the Premiership side will be able to recall loan players at short notice.

However, Raith can now continue discussions with the Light Blues with a mandate from their faithful.

A statement read: “Thank you to everyone who responded to our recent survey on the proposed co-operation agreement.

“We received 988 responses from the 1,456 supporters contacted.

“Of those, 85.4 per cent voted in favour of entering into the co-operation agreement.

“We will now engage with Rangers to finalise the next steps of the agreement.”

Raith were first approached by Rangers last year through Nils Koppen, then technical director, and subsequently visited Stark’s Park for further talks.

Rovers director Ruaridh Kilgour explained back in June that ‘it was left with Rangers to draw up a proposal’.

The co-operation initiative was introduced by the Scottish FA and SPFL as a way of exposing more youngsters to first-team football through flexible loans.

It covers youngsters under the age of 21 who qualify for Scotland, with players being able to move backwards and forwards between agreed teams outside the transfer windows

Having received the backing of supporters, Raith are now pushing on with the partnership.

Publicly, manager Barry Robson has so far refused to be drawn on his opinions on the new agreements, with Aberdeen, Hearts, Hibernian, Kilmarnock and St Mirren all having deals in place.

Speaking to Courier Sport recently, he said: “I can’t comment on (whether it will be beneficial) until we’ve done it and seen if it works.

“I think let’s try and see if it works first and have a look and see if it does improve. And we’ll know that over time.”

Tonight’s team….

RANGERS: Butland, Aarons, Djiga, Souttar, Jefte, Rothwell, Diomande, Cameron, Antman, Gassama, Dessers

Tav dropped is the shocker for me.

Raskin is obviously the one Martin has not been happy with. Rumours are his heads been turned and looking to get away

Dowell is never a RW but surprised they’ve thrown Antman straight in

Danilo / Dessers toss of a coin really

Rangers are 1 up, but my god they are gash.
Gash????

They were excellent for 70 minutes tonight. They made a very decent Plzen team look very ordinary

Antman had one of the best debuts I’ve seen in years. Lyall Cameron’s performance was excellent. Sorry for Sheff Wed but Gassama looks like being an absolute steal.

Not getting carried away as one great performance doesn’t mean a lot if we can’t back it up on Saturday against Dundee.

Thought the team was much more balanced last mate. Aarons looks really poor at left back but looked much more comfortable on the right, with a more natural left back.

Thought Cameron looked better in one of those roving number 8 roles than Raskin, who is more suited to the 6 in this system.

Looked much better with 2 threatening wide players than with someone like Dowell there, and Dessers is still the best option at centre forward.

Early days but if Martin learns his lesson and plays the players in positions that actually suit them instead of trying to shoehorn players in, the team will be all the better for it.
