Yep. Good old "timing" the issue.
More likely he's had a meeting with Thelwell and Stewart after all the ground work had been done to get a deal in place, he's had direct contact with the imbeciles he'll be directly answerable to and thought "fk that".
Not based on any fact tbh but that's my guess.
Basically they will not get anyone competent in as a manager until those 2 pricks are erased from the club.

Stevie from 4lads apparently saying they have someone lined up and it'll be officially announced on Thursday. Fk knows why we need to wait that long if it's a done deal and who the hell this man is at this point is anyone guess. Probably Thelwells second cousin.

He can probably float under the radar and approach the job with more freedom than previous managers have because the fans already have their sights set on those above him. Plus he can't possibly perform worse with these players than Russell Martin did, can he?!

I’d think 3rd choice at best. Slippy , Muscat, McInnes all ahead of him. Less realistic targets Knutsen and Lampard
Who knows. He could be a great success and I do believe the team is better than the results / performances so far.
Good point from Goatfeeder. The fans have Thelwell firmly in their sights and possibly less pressure on Rohl as expectations are at an all time low

I reckon he was higher on the boards radar than all of them but they've felt what the fan backlash can be like with the whole Martin debacle, so their approaches to Gerrard and Muscat don't feel like anything more than playing to the gallery. I think Rohl was who they wanted all along. How do you go from being on the brink yesterday with Muscat to then suddenly announce Rohl today days after he backed away from the role? The whole situation has been a complete shitshow and the fact its played out so publicly is embarrassing for the club and everyone involved.
Speaking of embarrassing, my username needs an update it's been that since I was a teenager. Didn't realise how naff it was til I seen it appear in your post just now!
I wouldn't actually be sure he was the boards 3rd choice. I wouldn't be surprised if he was their first choice but went for Gerrard due to fan pressure. Rohl certainly fits the head coach role under Thelwell and Stewart more than Gerrard and Muscat.
I’m sick of the fawning over Gerrard on FF!! I firmly believe him knocking back the deal is the best thing to happen to the club in years.
End of my holiday on Wednesday and wasn’t looking forward to flying back into a cold wet Glasgow but now I’ve got Sunday to look forward to
