Rangers thread | 2025/26

Was McInnes actually approached by the board?
I believe he made it known it wasn’t for him but I’ve been away for a couple of weeks. So who knows what’s been going on.

I think we can all agree it’s been handled dreadfully. Embarrassing for all at the club.

Hopefully we can enter into a period of stability

Danny Rohl confirmed. Wearing suit in officials club photoshoot but cannot confirm the footwear
Embargoed for now as Slaters didn't have his size in tan. Good to see him respecting traditions but might need to spruce up on the touchlines, although would appeal to the young team n that.

I’m sick of the fawning over Gerrard on FF!! I firmly believe him knocking back the deal is the best thing to happen to the club in years.

End of my holiday on Wednesday and wasn’t looking forward to flying back into a cold wet Glasgow but now I’ve got Sunday to look forward to

My mate seems to have thrown his own hissy fit. Wanted Gerrard, hates the fact the Thelwell and Stewart are the reason he's not here therefore won't even give Rohl a chance.

I said like any other manager results will dictate whether a manager is a success or not but he actually said he wants him to fail as it makes it more likely Thelwell and Stewart leave.

I just can't get that mindset at all.

I can almost understand it if you’re early 20s and younger and only real success was winning 55 but for grown men to be so blinded to Gerrards obvious flaws is baffling

Anyway putting aside the Scouse Git. I see from the official club photo shoot our newest manager was wearing the very smart club suit and the Brown brogues.

Welcome to the madhouse Danny Rohl and looking forward to Sundays game

Out of curiosity (more than anything) @No.8 @goatfeeder100 @GunnerGer after reading how negative the forums were for Röhl but positive for Muscat, what is the reason in the fans eyes he would have been a far better fit?

Ok obviously I'm a big Röhl fan but looking at their mangerial careers none of them are spectacular, one with less than 100 games in the English 2nd tier, and one with far more experience game wise, but in leagues that are more under the radar.

I don't know a lot about Muscat other than he was "combative" :) as a player, and he played for Rangers.

Muscat teams play exciting fast attacking football

He knows the club and the demands that come with the job

He’s put himself forward for the job in the past and shown he actually wants to be here

He has a great knowledge of a market for players that is largely unknown but has produced some real gems

He has a track record of success in leagues superior to the Scottish league

Not 100% on this but I believe he has ties to the City group

He was far worse than just combative to say the very least.

Can only really echo what No.8 said re. Muscat. Proven winner in different leagues, ex Rangers player so 'gets the club', exciting style of play etc.

Where Rohl is concerned I think it's mostly suspicion of bringing in one of these young "head coach" types and that's fuelled mainly by how much of a disaster Russell Martin was and how fresh in the memory it is still. There's probably a lot of ignorance out there about Rohl. Myself included tbh because I just don't know anything about him other than what I've read from Wednesday fans like yourself about him, which I must say I've found quietly encouraging. Wednesday fans seem to really like him. Unfortunately for every Wednesday fan who says he performed a miracle to get Wednesday out of trouble there's that retweet of all the bad results you had along the way with the inference of "that's what you're getting".

I'm just glad the whole debacle is over with, there's a man in place now and I wish him all the very best. I just hope he's allowed the time to get his feet under the table properly and the players don't let him and us down again.

Cheers chaps for the update.

Don't get me wrong Röhl got games wrong with us, it's not like he was the second coming of Rinus Michels but what I liked about him was how he'd change things if it wasn't working to bring us back into the game and win points.

I feel Russell Martin isn't that type of manager, he has one way of playing and that's it.

I'll be keeping a eye on how you get on

The best managers in history have got games wrong from time to time. Rohl will no doubt fall the same way but he'll be judged on how he quickly he adapts to things that aren't working, and if the players are able/willing to follow whatever it is he wants to get out of them.

I do hope he gets time to make a positive impact but the fans that I see on the old socials and fan message boards are insanely impatient these days because of so many failures that it might only take 1 or 2 iffy results early doors and he'll be bang up against it. I suggested above that the guys above Rohl are still firmly in the firing line so that might buy him a bit of extra grace if it's a slow burner of a start for him. It seems every manager that comes in is faced with must win games immediately. In Rohls case we probably need to beat Brann tomorrow night to give ourselves any chance of making the playoffs in the Europa and soon after is an old firm cup semi final. Bad results in either of those games and you can guarantee the knives will start to be sharpened whether that's fair or not.

He's a brave man for wanting the challenge so got to respect him for it. Wish him all the best.

I think that's modern football in a nutshell m8

Fanbases expect instant results, I put it down to the Will Still's of this world taking Vauxhall Motors to Champions League glory on Football Manager, and thinking this management game is a piece of piss :)

I believe he’s won over a few doubters with his press conference where he came very well.

It was also pleasing to hear directly from Andrew Cavenagh

Tomorrow night is a bit of a free hit as nobody expects much in Europe this season. Sunday on the other hand will be huge

Sorry for the late reply, but i think there's a few different reasons. One, is that he's had a bit more managerial experience than Rohl, he's on his 4th club as an actual manager, in 4 different countries, winning the league in 3 of them. There's the obvious slight Rangers connection there. He has followed Ange around a bit & plays a similar type of attacking game to him which was successful for our rivals. He seems to have a presence about him, that seems more leader than just head coach.

I think Rohl has unfortunately for him been classed in a bracket with Martin in a lot of supporters eyes. He's seen as a bit too young, a bit too inexperienced as a main man, and that feeds more into the narrative of him being 'just' a head coach with Thelwell & Stewart running the show at a time they are as popular as a hard boot in the baws. I think the thinking was that a Gerrard / Muscat appointment would lessen their influence.

I really hope he proves the doubters wrong. He just needs to win some games first & foremost.

Well...fair to say this is a diabolical start for the manager tonight!

He really has got one weak as piss bunch of players to work with.
