Ransomware Attack On 16 NHS Hospitals

I keep hearing that this problem first occurred on Friday but I had a doctors appointment last Thursday (4.40pm) and when I arrived I was unable to self check in using the terminal provided. I asked at the desk and they said computers were down, the doctor couldn't access my records and had to hand write notes, she couldn't issue a prescription and asked me to call back next day for it.
I needed to speak with the receptionist again on my way out and I asked if the computers were fixed, she said no and that it was something serious..

I called back there on Friday for the script and all seemed ok.

This leaves me wondering if the problems were related to this attack, or just coincidence. Did the attack start on Thursday, or Friday as widely reported?

I see Metrolink is suffering today due to communication issues....I wonder if its linked and the ransomware has found its way onto their computers?
Nah, that's just Metrolink

Going in for an operation tomorrow, hope they chop the right bit up.
You are going in for a radical inguinal orchiectomy right?

For anyone running legacy Windows OS's that are no longer supported, MS have released security updates to guard against these attacks. This goes all the way back to XP for you hold outs:

I apologise for being slow but, how did this all pan out? I've heard nothing on this for a while.

Some / most hospitals were fully functioning within a few days. A minority's have just had their IT restored after problems with the ransonware virus that lasted two weeks

We had this attack in a few of our legacy Win2k machines where i work, it was only a handful of machines but it still astounds me that such a big company can be running obsolete, non-supported OS.
