Agreed on not making Livramento the full time left back. I'm just thinking of using him at left back as a stopgap this coming season if we wait til next summer for Ait Nouri and can't find another suitable left back. To your point it's not worth wasting Livramento on the left and we'd probably be better off just paying the money for Ait Nouri now so we don't have to play Livramento on the left so much.
I mean there is also Robinson right? I don’t doubt ait nouri is the only option available?
I think the club will try to get 2 fullbacks no matter what. Robinson would also be HG. I guess if he was 2 years younger the club would go for him. I secretly wish the club would still go for him but maybe he is like Kerkez too much of a fullback for Pep

I’ve watched Aït-Nouri play quite a lot this year and he’s always impressed me. He’s clearly technically gifted but the one thing that excites me most is that he is a fucking pain to play against because you can’t get the ball off him.

Our squad used to be exclusively formed of players who never seemed to be dispossessed. David Silva the best example but also Yaya, I don’t think I remember him ever being muscled off the ball - he just swatted people away.

That for me has been one of the major drop-offs this year and a big part of our precipitous downfall. I actually quite rate Nunes, but him along with Savinho, Doku, Foden and unfortunately at times, Kovacic and even KDB. It felt like we spent that entire Winter period turning the ball over every chance we got.

A foundation that looks more like Gvardiol, Khusanov, Dias, Aït-Nouri with Nico/Rodri in front is going to win a huge proportion of their duels.
My only concern is RB. We have a total of 0 proper right backs at the club. Nunes does a good job, but not quite at the level we need to compete against the best teams. Kyke Walker never got replaced, unless we intend to use Khusanov there.

Seems like this could be the first one in which is interesting! Could have been ongoing before Reijnders and Cherki deals then?
Think cherki will be first purely because he finishes with France before the other two finish with their international sides

Looks like we have had the wheels in motion on several, as Khaldoon suggested we would. Got the agreements sorted with the players and now it's agreeing the price/structure with the clubs.

Would imagine we will still be doing our usual tough negotiation despite prices being relatively low for us, but will look to get things moving early which the selling clubs are probably keen for as well.

To bring in three before the CWC along with the 5 from January is excellent work.

If he wasn’t shite we might go for him.
You don’t secretly wish we’d go for him you never shut up about him.

Ok fair. Then its just a matter of opinion then. As i think Ait Nouri is better than Kerkez
Kerkes and Robinson are what we used to call “straight up and downers”. Very traditional but perhaps a bit one-dimensional overlapping full backs with heavy cross numbers into the box. Still suit many teams such as liverpool but maybe not us so much
And that’s not a criticism, would gladly have either in our squad
But Ait-Nouri is a much more skilful, versatile and subtle type of player who is a better fit for how we play
Whatever flaws he might have are offset by his high ceiling as a player. In five years time he might be a midfielder or a right winger. Who knows?

50m does seem high since he has one more season left on his contract from what I've heard. I'd do it for 40m, but 50m isn't worth it. At that point, might as well get Aina on a free this summer for right back and go all in on Livramento for left back. If RAN doesn't sign a new deal, then we go get him for free next summer. AFCON this winter as well so Aina and Livramento isn't a bad contingency plan with both of them being homegrown as well.
Always a compromise. Maybe £35m upfront and another £10m on variables etc. takes them to the mythical £100m for PSR

I'd still do it, honestly. If we're able to add McAtee or Grealish to the deal for Livramento then we could potentially get two PL-proven fullbacks for ~45-50M each.

I can't see Newcastle selling him.

Ait-Nouri will be a great addition.
