The thing with Cherki is that when he's on he has always looks like the best player on the pitch. Even when he was playing alongside Olise in the U21 team in 2023 or alongside Doué and Barcola in 2024 he always looked a level above everyone.
Doué vs Cherki in particular has been one of the most popular debate in France this past season (Akliouche was also included at first but it became about these two only midway through the season).
Obviously Doué has had more opportunities to shine on a bigger stage by account of PSG being so good in the CL but Cherki was better in the league on a far worse team and got a goal or assist every single game against PSG or Marseille even though Paris and Marseille completely dominated us which is usually the kind of game that fits Cherki's game the least : low possession and not much opportunity to create because we struggle to string 3 passes without losing the ball.

Quoting my own post since it happened last time too on and this time on another stage with the best players in the world.

I've still not seen Rayan Cherki play for a team where he doesn't look a level above everyone else. When he decides to take over a game he just tends to outshine everyone.
