Rayan Cherki

Simon Stone suggesting that City might wait until the proper transfer window as according to his sources at the club, the deal isn't progressing quite as quickly as previously claimed.
Stone then claims that this would be pointless as City are taking the CWC seriously and Cherki would strengthen their chances

In other words, he's made it all up.
I’ve just read what he wrote, he’s covered every base possible. It’s a convoluted way of saying “I haven’t got a fucking clue”.

Cherki article. Comments page.

I'm a Lyon fan and he is a world class talent but he is nowhere near the finished article. His decision making, work rate, attitude and end product is often poor, but you can still see there is magic in this guys boots and if pep can extract he'll be world class, if he can't then you've got another Adel Taarabt.

City are looking to wrap up a deal quickly, but have also said they might wait and will consider other options before committing, unless they commit, which they're fully committed to potentially considering.

bollocks thats coming from a lyon fan

Article in this morning's L'Équipe, for those interested. Headline broadly translated: “The details behind the “event transfer” of Rayan Cherki.” They say the fee is 40 million € and then some (without being specific, presumably add-ons). It's the lead story, by the way. Couldn't give a fuck what the British media says, one way or the other. If France's leading sports newspaper has this as the banner story on its front page — it's done.

Edit: incidentally they are courteous enough to mention that City is — I quote — the perfect club for him. Which is no more than the truth, but nice to hear it said calmly and decisively in the middle of all the flak we get from our own media (and the tongue-up-the-arse coverage of the red clubs).

N.b.: no mention whatsoever of loan player from us.

Re-edit: just off to buy the print version, and get a proper butcher's at the whole article.

Yep, whole of the front page in the print version. Banner headline: “Cherk'In The City” (Don't ask — I don't really understand the play on words here, I suspect it's less clever than the journo thinks it is…). I'll scan it later on when my daughter-in-law gets back (I don't know how to use her scanner!) and put it up on here.
Photo of him with his suitcase, and the Etihad over his shoulder. Could be real, could be a montage, not sure (doesn't matter).

Just a thing, though — anybody think this guy looks a little, er… stocky?? Dare I even say it— a bit… overweight?!
Have we in fact got the new Kalvin Phillips?

Henry reckons he might one day be as good as Ozil, hopefully not the can't be arsed half the time Ozil i remember

We've seen what Cherki can do in a cameo of his France debut. He'll just get better and better so I have no worries

You should go into politics, you know.

(That sort of makes me think of that now legendary anthology piece, Jeremy Paxman interviewing Michael Howard: “Yes, but did you threaten to overrule him?”)

This is why his price is so low. Just constant negative shit from the French media and other sources. I've been watching a few videos about him, why his price is low etc.

The kid doesn't have attitude issues he isn't lazy, since 16 he's been compared to Taarabt and Ben arfa, since 16 the French media have done nothing but criticise and attack Cherki. Honestly it feels a like he's been stereotyped

Constant comparisons to Ben Arfa and Taarabrt even though he's nothing like them personality wise But because he's similar then he has to be like them.

Look at this shared by Ous who's French.

At least he's already used to getting shit from the media.

He'll be fine. And if he isn't well at least he didn't cost £100m.

I don’t think he’s overweight his genetics are bulky body but I’m sure City will look to get him as lean as his body will allow.
