RB Leipzig (A) - Post-match Thread

There’s some very angry posters on here tonight! Haha!

It pissed me off more than most matches we lose.

Something about seeing us play like we didn't give a shit at all, with the kids waiting on the bench, and then half a dozen senior players at the club losing their heads over a few non decisions and suddenly decide they cared after 75 mins, and then fail anyway.

The weekend cant come soon enough, we need to put that behind us ASAP.

I think Pep is going to absolutely murder some of them in the dressing room. Walker, Gundo, Stones, Fern, Mahrez and Grealish really let themselves down.

It doesn't have to be a bad thing if it puts a rocket up them for the rest of December.

But why call it a dead rubber, what does it mean?
Its origin is actually from the card game 'rubber bridge' where in a three-competition game one team wins once it scores 100 points or more. If that is done before completing the three competitions, the remaining one is said to be dead rubber.

Rubber bridge is a form of contract bridge, played by two competing teams of two players each. A rubber is a best-of-three competition which is completed when one team is first to win two games. A team wins a game when it is first to score 100 or more contract points; a new game ensues until one team has won two games to conclude the rubber.

Think Pep treating this match to raise some of our player match fitness after returning from the injury and bench player need to get some playing time too to get some sharpness of their game.

Tough schedule ahead, starting and bench player needs to be fit and sharp to prepare upcoming tough schedule so i can see why pep didn't put any academy player on starting lineup on this match.

The only big loss is Kyle Walker but other than that we did OK, it's hard to motivate majority player to win in meaningless match and only wants to play for raising their level of fitness.

That important match was crying out for balls deep high intensity pressing football. Bernardo, cancelo and rodri should’ve played. Shirley?
Ask yourself, and in no way is this meant to be patronising, but why would he play the 3 most consistent players this season in a game where we have qualified? It’s a genuine question

Totally understand your point about intensity, keeping a run going, breeding confidence etc, all has merit and I'd be inclined to agree if we sent out our best 11 and did that. but that side whilst still being full of first teamers is at least half a dozen away from our best side and so i don't think its a problem for the players to shake that off instantly and switch back on for the weekend.

I also think peps prioritised using that as an experiment over keeping momentum going. I couldnt work out exactly what Pep was trying but First half especially we were set up differently than usual, seemed like he was trying something differently, fullbacks were tucked further in than usual and our 8s were a lot higher and wider than usual, whatever he was trying it's clearly not gone well but Peps always going to be innovating and that's the game to do it in.

As for the kids getting a game, it's unfortunate for them but they are in that environment daily, they know Pep doesn't hand out freebies and you have to work for it, most are 18/19 there's very few that get a sniff at that age even at lesser sides, if they're contemplating doing a Sancho they don't have the right mentality to be here anyway and won't be missed, they've got foden to look at as an example of how you get into this side, if he can bide his time, anybody can. we're not unique in this, most other top clubs are the same, you need only look at liverpools team tonight who are in the same situation, they've got 1 kid in and that's more down to a lack of options and the likes of Salah and mane and even Alisson are starting and they don't have the depth we have so you'd think they'd be more likely to play the kids.
Nice to see 2 people completely opposing each others views to the point that the first poster said it's horseshit but then mentioned usually liking the other posters views. Then the reply was not reactionary. No argument. Just a decent debate.
