RB Leipzig (H) | Post Match Thread

Exceptional performance. We were quick, free-flowing and decisive throughout. We got fortunate with a few decisions but doesn't take away how good we were on the night.

Really seemed like we rediscovered our groove. So hopefully more of the same for the rest of the season.

Atmosphere was decent, Kev was spectacular, Ake has gone to a whole new level. Bernardo is skills on a 750cc Suzuki and I just do not understand why some fans think Rodri is a liability and Ederson aint at times. It is also no surprise we appear to have suddenly clicked just as Dias returns.

Our spine is big strong and physical, we bullied a decent side last night.

Then we have Haaland who when he gets up to speed will be quite a player!. His development under Pep is amazing to see, he is obviously still scoring at a ridiculous rate, but he works so hard off the ball and is now beginning to link play like an old fashioned number 9

We are the team to be avoided in the next round, we are building a run and we know what happens when we do that, we can look unbeatable. Oh to emulate the rags treble, that would be perfect, but I would happy take an FA Cup so Haaland gets a taste of trophy winning.

How about starting CL matches half an hour earlier, or is that a daft idea?

I guess it may help some, but its still a mid week game where time constraints apply.

I think people just need to apply some common sense and empathy to the requirements of others.

I'm not just saying it because of tonight, I'm saying this because the past 4/5 years in particular he's been absolutely sensational...

John Stones is the best centre back in world football. Genuinely wouldn't take anyone over Stonesy. We are a much much better team when Stones is fit and in our starting 11. He's come on leaps and bounds the last few seasons he has such mature performances now, The first few seasons of "John Stones has a mistake in his game" he has rectified that, He has a massive presence, So composed, His positional sense, Sniffing out danger, Passing between the lines and what I love most about him now he bullies centre forwards he's in charge.

He's fucking immense.
Still got mates from other clubs who think he's crap, they won't be told. In truth I couldn't really care less, we know what we've got on our hands

amazing, outstanding etc. Don't really know what to add to 42 pages of summing up what was obvious!

others: John Stones played really well as inverted RB, filling in behind Rodders and overloading a bit. Lovely to see KdB back in rollocking form like that. Akanji far more settled again, this run of form is suiting him.

I dont think our pen was a pen. Well maybe it was under some specific rules, but if that was against City.....anyway, it was soft as fuck. Also i thought Ederson was lucky to get away with that rash charge.

great evening, any of Inter, Chelsea, Benfica and AC Milan will do, avoid Bayern, Napoli and Madrid/Liverpool for now.

The scary thing about last night was their keeper had a monster game. Sure, 3 of his saves went into the path of Haaland but he made 5 or 6 others. On another night it really could have been 10.

Amount of flappers on here before the game and on Twitter. Pep got it absolutely spot on which isn’t said enough when we win tactical battles like that. Absolutely ground down a quality opposition learning from past mistakes where we’ve gone all in too early in knockout ties and been scrapping to get through in added time. Leipzig are a good side and would give any other prem side trouble over two legs as no one else can control a game like we do.

Wow. Honestly thought that line-up was slightly over-cautious but it worked incredibly well. It's like all of what Pep has been trying to get the team to do worked. Massively impressive 90 minutes

Wow. Superb performance. Erring just no words. Stonesy sensational. Ake again excellent. Jack knows he has arrived in this team. Kev with a fk you performance :)

Goals change the course of games, and when the first two goals are dubious, it's going to affect how the rest of the match plays out. If Leipzig could've kept a clean sheet until the break and Ederson had been shown the red card, who knows what might have happened.

Let me make this clear: City are a WAY better team. They are going to win this fixture 99 out 100 times, especially at the Etihad. But they shouldn't have received those favors from the referee. Leipzig were denied any real shot at this game because of him.

We saw how Milan and Inter went through by digging in and playing ultra defensively (albeit against worse teams). Had a similar referee been in charge of their games, they wouldn't have had a chance.
Such refereeing performances bring the game into a state of disrepute. I don't think it's in City's best interest to win like this either.

In short: Congrats on your advancement. Massive performance. But I don't want to hear you guys ever complain about refs again.
Cheers for your input, very intuitive.

Give a fuck.

Well said Cookster.
I think the Mods had run out of fanny wipes a good half hour before KO.
Absolutely stunning win. Just gotta love this club.
I think it was a workmanlike performance against a side who reminded me of Notts Forest back at the start of the season. They offered nothing. The best stat was our clean sheet. That is how we will win this trophy.

Pep said a few things in his presser which would explain the cautious approach and why we let Cancelo go. Haaland coming in means we as a team need more defenders on the pitch to add steel and stability. Cancelo for all his attacking quality was a weak link at the back. Ake and Dias have really solidified the defence and stones can do a job anywhere across the back and midfield.

Yesterday will give the players the belief that the new system can work. Throw in the graft of jack/foden/bernie and kev being kev and its a dangerous team. Hopefully it is not a one off but the start of a dominant period. It takes a while to get a new system in place and it explains why pep focused on possession. almost giving them time to adjust.

On Kev, boss hit the nail on the head. If you look back to his bad games, he was trying to play like bernie/Gundo etc and misplacing pass after pass. We need his dynamic drive and his ball delivery. leave the tippy tappy stuff to the rest.

Rebirth of a new team.
