cost depends on whether they need scaffolding or not. If they do add around £350. I'd guess around £300 for the pointing

Reason i ask ,i asked a builder a few months ago walking to work,told him its just for the front of a semi detached average size house,cheeky sod said around 2 grand if scaffolding is needed,thats what as put my friend off

Probably didn't want the job. It's really hard to get builders nowadays.

Licence to print money but it is hard graft. Fucked my body (back and knees) right up.

Hard to tell without knowing the size of the area needing pointing but 2k for one wall seems a bit steep to me. Only real cost involved is some mortar and the rest is labour.

Fuck that.
The guy that did my end terrace worked like a trojan. Arrived at 8am and was grafting after 5 minutes. I had to get him down the ladder to eat summat or he'd have gone non-stop til 5pm. Three days of that and job done perfectly for £800

That’s what you want to get a job done and you don’t mind paying when somebody puts the graft in like that. Might need mine doing soon, so could you give me his contact details?

I wish i could mate but after he did mine he said that was the last time he'd do pointing and that was about 5 years ago.

Grade 2 listed building. Three levels.
Both gable ends to be pointed.
Lime mortar, colour to precisely match any existing / saved mortar
Traditional pointing method only. This leaves you with a handful of 'specialists' acceptable to the listing office.
Inspection by listing officials pre, mid, and post job.

The 'quotes' were all 'flexible' in the range of "fucking hell" and "call me an ambulance". Just for repointing that I'd have done myself up a ladder if the property hadn't been listed.

We'd already decided we wanted to move, so we left it and sold the house. The buyers said that they weren't worried about things needing to be done and didn't need to get a survey, as they were keen DIYers who could do most things.

We took their money and moved 200 miles away to a house that isn't listed and won't need any major work for the foreseeable future.

Moral of the story... Don't buy a listed property. They're money pits.

I have been a builder for 40 years & its fair to say I Fuc#ing hate pointing walls!
So much so my house has needed pointing since we moved in over 30 years ago & its still not been done, mind you its good for the wildlife, we have had Sparrows, Blue Tits, Bats & all sorts of masonry bees living with us all that time :-)

its a 300 year old barn conversion with walls around 2ft thick so no damp or mould problems, it hasnt even got a damp proof course in the brickwork :-)
God knows what a spotty kid with a certificate & clipboard doing a survey would make of it if we ever sell the place?
