Planning on doing this next month for a day. Anyone done this before? If so, any tips welcome.

Ive done this twice, once in the summer and then once (for my stag do) in November(both times it was a Saturday).

The train was packed out in the summer, as were all the pubs. When i went in November it was very quiet. Depending what time of the day you are planning on setting off, ive heard some people say its a good idea to go straight to Batley and work your way back...

Its a great day out, well worth doing....

Cheapest ticket is to ask at the ticket office in Stalybridge, the people in the ticket office are good with it. Where you read 'buy a return to Marsden (I think) then a west yorkshire rover it's a load of bollocks

Do it in one direction i.e. don't think you will do every other stop to Batley and the ones in between on the way back, with the exception of the Head of Steam & Kings Head on Huddersfield station, which you have to stop at anyway. Also good in Huddersfield is The Sportsman, not too far from station.

Marsden- don't go to the pub next to the station, go down to the Riverhead down the road in the village- think this is the accepted place to go now

Forget Slaithwaite (Shite home brew in Commercial) and Mossley (Britannia not really a real ale pub)

Mirfield- Navigation, nice.

Think there could be an old thread on here somewhere matey.

edit...

Still think there's an older one, not much in that thread only to confirm leave Slaithwaite out.

Yep, there are these 2 threads too

Check which pubs you can and can't go in. Certain ones now not serving shots, stags n hens or lager. Am sure there will be a time limit on these and is only certain pubs but worth checking.
