Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

For some perspective, we beat a Madrid side full of serial winners 4-0 2 seasons ago in one of the greatest performances by an English side in Europe ever.
Our team has now come to the end of the road, while Madrid is on their way to a rebuild. They are now much better than us.
Let's see in a year

Pep has been an utter disapointment on a weekly basis this season but I believe he will get it right in the end. He always does.

Gundogan/Stones/Bernardo/KdB = all done, going through the motions just waiting for the day they become historical figures at the club instead of the downright liabilities we sadly allowed them to become because we were stupid enough to make ourselves depended on them as a group in the twilight of their career.

Pep's City mk. 3 starting from next season

Defence is injury prone
Midfield is old and past it
Attack getting there

We need young hungry players to replace the old guard. Then we will see the old city.

Well done Madrid, deserved winners over the two legs, they are miles ahead of us this season

On to weekend. Let's hopefully keep some form in the league and get at least 5th.

Is what it is.
Yep, and the more rational of their fans would have been talking like this in 2023, now look at them.

We will be back, just like they are. Ding dong.

Played like they didn’t fancy any further games in this comp this season.

We didn’t really even deserve to be given this Gutter Round to get the chance for any more games: 22nd best team in Europe, we were out after the 3-0 > 3-3 capitulation against Feyenoord.

Too many injuries, too many old men, too many young lads, too few players bang in their prime and fit anymore.
Everything wrapped up in a nutshell

Onwards to hopefully get top 4 secured as a priority, maybe fluke a cup final to boot

But getting top 4 and securing our first choice summer transfer targets is main agenda now

I was really confident before the match, even with Haaland missing.

However, that was absolutely pathetic.

I excuse Khasanov from that, I thought after a difficult start he was superb in the circumstances, with little help from people around him. Great prospect.

The race is run for a lot of that team, but we knew that already.
On what basis? Not having a go at you alone, by the way. In the pre match thread, there were plenty of downright embarrassing conments

Unfortunately i think the scousers would do them over 2 legs. Absolutely wiped the floor with them at Anfield. Madrid have great players but aren’t a truly great side. They can be out worked. Not by a team with players as lazy as Foden and a midfield that looks like it should be playing in an over 40’s league though.
Not the way they're playing at the moment mate.

That’s probably the best Madrid side we’ve faced over the last few seasons. Game was over really after the home leg

Thought Khusanov played well and kept Vini reasonably quiet.
Nico looks like a 2019 Rodri. Obviously got all the talent but may take some time to reach his full potential

Not really changed much we need a really good attacker (preferably Wirtz) and least 2 mire good players

Actually a little fortunate they’ve took there foot of the gas and didn’t make it a 5/6-1 game

Can’t believe I sacked off playing Wednesday night football in the cage for that shower. Pep should have offered to give me a little run out.. I couldn’t have done worse!
