It’s not just that though is it, we have lost 13 games and been woeful most of the season.Only Peps credit in the bank is keeping him in a job, every other top team would be tempted to pull the trigger

So much is becoming clear now in the squad with who stays and who goes. I'm sure there's a few on here who'd be happy with some of the current team playing into their forties. Sizeable rebuild on the near horizon.

There's no ingenuity or intensity in the way we play. We dont have an identity, our strategy is sideways passing and high line. We are boring to watch, cannot create chances against good opposition and are mentality weak. Players look like they don't believe in the tactics.

Nunes aint anywhere near the level - he is another Phillips - Pep doesnt rate him and so deservedly doesnt get into our midfield...to say he would have been better is plain wrong and desperate.

Grealish - he aint playing for one or two reasons - problems off the pitch affecting his performances on it - hugely overrated player and makes zero difference - especially from an attacking point of view

Doku - i really like him but he loses posession as he is a player who takes high risks (nothing wrong with that but not against Madrid away)

Pep went for dominating the ball - it didnt work but what you dont want is a basketball game vs madrid and the likes of Doku, Nunes give you that - they would have scored 10 if it had been like that

The key is as Ive said since the Rodri injury is that with the current squad there is no answer to the real issues and they ALL lie with our midfield or lack of it....the older players cant do it anymore and the replacements arent good enough.

What people should be thinking instead of the rag, self entitled belief we should be winning it every year.

He said they were the better team and that this wasn’t the best season for us in this comp, but that we have been so lucky to be in it all these years, win it once and be finalists another time.

He’s fucking 100% spot on.

it does beg the question as to why we have dropped so far. It can't be one man (Rodri), can it? I think its just the game has changed. Teams have gotten more pacey. Counter attack us more effectively. This and our plodding offense. Teams just sit back and say, "oh this again? Nah, we're fit. We can handle 65/35 possession. Meantime, you can't run and we'll counter you to death".

Most of our key players are shot in one way or another and last season's chase for the elusive 4 in a row has taken that edge away.We have given him an extension and we are going to at the very least give him one more season to get things back on track.

Yeah, I would add to this that whenever things haven't looked quite right under Pep, the team has looked a bit shocking in moments. The way we play means that as long as we're at our best or close to it, we look dominant. We smother teams and restrict them completely, similar to what we saw against Newcastle

But we look super vulnerable the second it drops below a certain level. Struggle to hold the ball, struggle to create chances, and are easy to cut open with direct attacking. It's the price we pay for the way we play. See the 16/17 and 19/20 seasons as examples.

On the plus side, both those seasons were remedied with a few tweaks here and there. Newer players suddenly find their best form, a slightly new tactical approach, and a couple of good new signings, and the team looks back to its old self

So yeah, like you say. It won't take much to turn it around. I'm cautious about next season because of the Club World Cup, but beyond that, things will be alright again soon enough

And i guarantee we will be worse of it if we pull the trigger.
 
Disappointing performance is an understatement and there are no hiding places from where we are right now and what we have become ... we were simply schooled tonight and Madrid were a far superior outfit in every department .. the drop off within 2 years is frightening ... this rebuild will be a much bigger job that we envisaged ... an isolated positive tonight was Khusanov who is a serious prospect at such a young age ... we really need to settle on a fit back 4 and he could be part of that solution ... the recurring issue of our slow energy deficient midfield combined with a lack of physicality is absolutely killing us ... we must be a wet dream to play against ... anyway ... we just gotta accept the current status and await some tough tough calls this summer ... onwards and let's get a raucous home crowd going on Sunday and begin our journey to redemption ...

And who exactly do you think is an upgrade on pep ? I’m really curious as to who you think would be better to rebuild an aging team .
