Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

We need to calm the fuck down here, talking about sacking Pep is just Thrump insanity. This season has been a very unlucky one We had injuries all season both on defenders and midfielders Fodens form dip, and maybe that's why we seen that the squad is becoming to its end? Imagine if we did not lose Rodri should we still talk about how slow we are? Its not like he is a Ferrari either. Against Newcastle we all saw what important it is to have a
Player that fitts that position he did it well, today we played a hell of a team, like we do on Sunday and we are not there yet.
But I agree we need to get our squad younger and faster, in my mind we miss Kdb greatness and creativity and crosses and a right fullback.

If Madrid win the tournament then tonight will be a distant memory and won't seem so bad.

However we should never have got ourselves into this situation and we need to learn (fans included) that a football team can go backwards but still win the PL.

That's precisely what happened last season and rather than reinforce or replace we just let things drift to such an extent that we've gone backwards in both the PL and CL.

On the plus side (and despite a worrying first 15 minutes and all the subsequent commentary hysteria) I thought Khusanov grew into the game.
Similarly, whilst not particularly excelling tonight both Gonzales and Marmoush should help us finish the season strongly alongside the improving Gvardiol and Savinho
The loss to the Rags in the Cup Final was the pointer for me - we just didn’t turn up. It was a signpost to this season.

Hurt more last year when we batterd them an went out, were just not at it this year,it is what it is,its a real shame kev can even get on pitch, its sad to see, haaland killed us not playing, and we loast our outlet, was a very poor performance,or maybe they were just streets ahead, gotta take our medicine on that one,get top 5 an go again next year

I’d rather us have set ourselves up to be more competitive. Pep deserves no pelters but tonight felt wrong and in any job in life, people can make mistakes.

I’m not necessarily advocating ‘basketball’. But if it was ‘basketball’, that means end to end. That’s the point of the term applied to other sports. So if it was end to end, then yes. Because tonight was all at one end. So I think that’s logical. If you find it interesting, all the better
End to end sees them scoring even more.......pep needs his team to compere in one on ones....its why walker was so valuable and stones and rodri.....we can't do that anymore so he tried to revert to basically playing with 6 midfielders....issue was we didn't have prime rodri, gundo, kdb, Bernardo and we're trying to use a group of nearly new players with marmoush sav combined with Bernardo and Gundo neither of which can run anymore plus nico..who while decent can't be expected to be a prime fernandihno let alone prime rodri

Yes cause they didn't drop as they should....Madrid made the pitch huge and not a single player available tonight either on the pitch or on the bench change that.

Did you notice who mbappe beat with a step over for the third goal...Foden! Where was gundo, nico, silva.....????? Nowhere to be seen..... we don't have the physicality 8n the squad..

Liverpool if they have any sense will do exactly the same thing on weekend.....they are a sligyt step below Madrid but our midfield will get played around or over.

The difference is that Madrid midfield and front 3 are better tgsn Liverpools....but the issued will be similar

We may have Haaland back which gives us a different option but defensively the issues will remain
That 3rd goal of Madrid, 3 or 4 players all pointing to where they should be, but none have the legs to get out to Mbappe. Embarrassingly bad.

Brought my young lad over he loved it fair play to the blues that travelled

Best fans in the world many more to come ut was only a dream when I was his age city city

I don’t think there’s any team he could have picked that would have beaten Madrid tonight as we just don’t have the quality in the spine when any players are missing.
In the circumstances I was happy with the team he picked.

We then gave away that stupid first goal, WTF was Dias doing ? Then lost Stones 2 minutes later, both hurt the team badly, and we never really got a hold in the game, the second goal was equally awful, and it was done.

When you have Foden, Silva, Marmoush, Savinho, Gonzales, and Gundogan playing poorly, what else do we expect ?

I'd rather take a smaller loss with the chance of trying to control the game rather tgsn Jo control and no chance of winning.....they literally score double figures playing end to end....they hhave the best and fastest front 3 on the planet that are set up to play that way backed by Bellingham who just covers so much ground back to ftont

I've suffered City being shite for long enough not too be too downbeat about tonight. What I would say is that it was extremely disappointing how little was done to try and win the game tonight.

The shape was awful and the strengths of Marmoush and Savinho completely nullified. I'm not sure what Pep was hoping for but he should have changed it.

The one thing I wanted was fight and passion yet we just trod water for the entire game and it was pathetic in truth.

They're not that good and we aren't that bad. I don't want to see our players or manager ever throw the towel in as early as they did.

Can’t help but feel that any rebuild that occurs without a change to the way we play is destined to age badly.

You would hope the club can see this isn’t a simple case of changing players and we pick up where we left off. While I don’t think we’re as severe as United I do think their biggest downfall was them being stuck in their Ferguson ways.
This would require Pep to devise a new system which is a big gamble. We're not doing so many of the things that made us successful for a whole host of reasons. Injuries, poor acquisitions, ageing players, poor form etc. have all contributed. I'm convinced that with the right players doing what we were 2 or 3 seasons ago we'll be back. I'm not doubting they'll have to be some tactical changes, but I think we'll be ok if the rebuild is done right.

One poor season for a variety of reasons in nine is extraordinary.
