Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Am I missing something. We have 28 in our squad dont we? One of the largest.

Agreed on Gundog/ Kev (We need a very good replacement for him)/Nunes etc.
Up until the Jan window we had one of the smallest PL squads in the country.

Echeverri is Argentina's U20s no.10 and captain. His quality at that age is extraordinary. He looked like Messi. Wore his shirt, and demands the ball. The test will come when he plays against Premier League players. Can he do it then?

I've said this before but we might already have the a startling good midfield in the making:

1, Ederson

6, Rodri
8, Foden
10, Echeverri

9, Haaland

The gap is at 4,5 who have never been fit this season from one game to the next. Our defence is the problem. We are still scoring goals even with a struggling KDB and Gundogan.

I’d agree with that, except for swapping over Ake and Stones. The former is a bit injury prone, the latter has become a full time sick note sadly.
I'm praying that Pep puts Ake at left back on Sunday - he's had Saleh in his pocket a few times, but if Gvardiol is there, defensively, I fear the worst - he's great going forward but I don't trust him against the present best in the business.

Being cynical now but I am going to question:

1 - Ederson does not work since we have been playing the high line. The success through bringing Ederson in the team was from overwhelming the opposition press through an extra man. Ferdy 1 and then Rodri dropping deep to play keep ball with the split 2 centre backs whilst the full backs circle around and provide a new line is something we are not doing at the moment.
6 - Rodri - Will he come back the same way before?
8 - Foden - All the support in the world to him, but he should be coming of age and he isn't fit to lace David Silva's boots/
10. - Echeverri - Not sure what you have been smoking? Wishful thinking?
9. - Haaland - I think Haaland should be getting more lethal but the system we play breaks him down. I know a lot of people think that he does not do enough, but Haaland is the epitomy of less is more. Trying to get him involved with general build up play is just going to break him of all the natural assets that he has.

I turned it off and went to bed as soon as the third went in, something I've never done before.

...
Ha, you lasted longer than me. I turned it off when Stones went off injured (again).

The dodgy stream played it's part mind, TNT, like BT Sports previously, are much more aggressive in interrupting the streams (at least I'm guessing it's down to them).

Meh. Transitional season, it was obvious we were never going to win this competition after December, especially given our injuries and the size of our squad, so it'd be a waste of time continuing, especially when our league position is in a tenuous state.

Better to concentrate now on securing qualification for next season and going for the FA Cup, and not wasting our efforts on an already overly bloated competition like this seasons UEFA Playing Forever League.

For me the Madrid games were win win situation. If we win....great. If we lose at least we can concentrate on a top 4/5 finish and the FA cup. The two Madrid games also help bed in new signings.

I don't like some of our younger fans

I don't know whether you've ever watched the City YouTube channel The Mancunian Way, but if you have you'll know that Martin the guy who runs it is fighting a losing battle with our younger fans.

While I have sympathy with him, he's playing King Canute, the new fans have tasted success, consistent success and that's the standard now, drop below it and it gets nasty real fast, and who's to say they're wrong? Typical City ain't what it used to be.

The greatest striker on the planet scored a hattrick last night
The numbers don't lie. Haaland has massively better stats than anyone in the Ch L. 49 goals in 48 games. Obviously, we're not comparing other aspects, but in terms of numbers, that's how strikers are judged - the most difficult skill in football. Mbappe's 55 goals in 83 Ch L games is massively impressive. But come on, Erling's 49 in 48 is incomparable.

Who would you rather have in your team?

Read my comment - I made it clear that I'm not comparing other aspects. Current pros, ex pros and coaches say that goalscoring is the hardest skill of all. We've all played at some level and quickly realised just how special a skill goalscoring is. Both players need service and Mbappe gets that in abundance - both in the Mickey Mouse French League and in La Liga where Gareth Bale says Madrid only have four tough domestic league games a season. Haaland hasn't had great service but has scored 49 in 48 Ch L games. For me, given a choice - a choice no-one will ever have to make, I prefer Haaland every time. Haaland's numbers are beyond belief.
