Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Poor selection , poor mentality , no leadership throughout the team , no fight , RAN should be out LB full stop , Nunes right back , Rodri getting pelters off some , he's being left in midfield on his own , Sav shoudve been sold how the fuck he's getting starts is beyond me , Erl doesn't deserve a start at the moment , feel.sorry for Marmoush Cherki and Nico G don't know what more they need to do to cement a place in the side , be surprised if we win anything this season , can we sack our attacking and set piece coaches as they offer nothing

Why move? There's no reason to move if he knows he's not gonna get the ball. He literally has nothing to do and he's not the type of player that can drop deeper.
It’s not easy to pick him out when he’s hiding at the back post with 3 defenders around him

Might need to take him out of the team for a while and give marmoush a chance

lol, some of the posts on here.

There really are some utter dickheads so called supporting us, no doubt posting the complete opposite when we were winning the treble, four in a row etc.

Such short, shallow minds. You have to question their so called support. Last few pages are a complete joke.

If we win anything this season, don’t you dare cheer it or praise the manager.
They will, or not post at all until the next big defeat.

Doomsayers thrive on negativity as it makes them think they sound interesting. Problem is they expect others to join in. Poor performance tonight? Yes. Poor manager tactics and lineup? Yes. Cause for sacking him tonight and getting someone else in? Hell no! But not to a doomer! :)

Sounds like the exact opposite of how the style we played at St James Park.
Could it be that Bernardo and Haaland were in this lineup but not in the FA Cup game?
Or without full backs capable of putting crosses in?

Are we not allowed to criticise Pep when he has another CL brain fart, picks that team, and plays a formation like that? And when the players don’t turn up and don’t put in a performance. You should be asking questions and fumming like the overwhelming majority of City fans are tonight.

3-0 Man City

Manchester City

Manchester City midfielder Bernardo Silva, speaking to TNT Sports: "It is difficult to speak about it because I would need to watch it again. My feeling on the pitch was that we started the game well.

"The environment we could not control and I think my team let the emotions change the game. We felt comfortable and were finding the right spaces but after conceding the first one we lost completely the control, we stopped controlling transitions and second balls. When you play against Real Madrid with the quality they have you pay the price.

"It is a tough stadium to play at. We are used to playing at these stadiums because playing at Anfield and St James’ Park is very tough. You need to go through these moments to become better and today was just a learning game for the whole team.

“It is quite frustrating [we didn't score], even though we believe it is still possible because in football a lot of things can happen, at half-time we were saying, ‘the situation is bad’ there were a lot of things that shouldn’t have happened but with one goal you are in the tie.

At 3-0 it makes it a bit more difficult. Now it feels really bad, now it feels really dark. Tomorrow is another day and for sure next week we will go to the game thinking we have a chance.

“Right now is the moment to reflect and see what we didn’t do right. Then next week when we are preparing we will be hopeful we can do something.”

Real Madrid's Trent Alexander-Arnold, speaking to TNT Sports: "People expected us to get battered tonight but it just shows our mentality. We executed the game-plan perfectly. When you get to knockout football in the Champions League anyone can beat anyone."

Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, speaking to TNT Sports: "Real Madrid had the ability and the quality. It is what it is. I felt we were better than the result. Now is the time to recover. We'll go to West Ham which will be tough."

On the prospect of staging a comeback in the second leg: "In football you never know. We will try."

I'm pissed off, we tried our nuts off at the end of last season to qualify for the CL and then we seemingly just casually throw all that work away in 20 minutes of sheer madness. Real Madrid would have been happy with a draw tonight and we somehow have given them a bye into the next round. Crazy and complacent from Pep. On a par with the ludicrous team selection against Chelsea in that CL final.

Pep wanted us to smash them and the opposite happened. Bad mistake.

Should have played our normal team with Nunes and RAN at FB and O'Reilly in midfield.

Semenyo looks lost against low blocks and doesn't offer any creativity. There's no connection between him and Haaland.
There’s no connection from Haaland to anyone full stop.
