Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

This is ALL on Guardiola. ALL of it. I don't know what the hell he was thinking but he overthought it AGAIN, like he always does in the CL, every time.

Semenyo as a 10?? SEMENYO?? The guy can barely string two touches together and you play him as a 10 while Cherki - the most technically gifted player we have sits on the bench watching. Absolutely baffling decision, I'm sorry but that's just criminal.

And Savio starting again, why?? Why does this guy keep getting picked?? He was absolute garbage tonight, as usual.

We didn't score a single goal. Not one. Let that sink in. And then Pep doesn't even START Nunes who is probably the best player in the world in his position right now. For what exactly??

Second leg we can still turn this around, if they scored three then we can score four, but honestly this is a disgrace. We should have destroyed them tonight. DESTROYED them. Pep bottled it again.

Just lost to a second string Madrid team without their best midfielder and best Attacker. Embarrassing display, Haaland needs pull his finger out his arse been shit since January.

Peps over thought a champions league knockout game again. Dropping Nunes and playing a Savinho who can’t hit a barn door.

Let’s just leave our best creator on the bench in Cherki brilliant tactical thinking.

He’s just been out thought again by a new manager in Arbeloa. We are not winning anything this season.

I wasn't expecting that!

I thought we started the game well, but got we got caught out and punished, big time!
We fell off after conceding the first and didn't seem to know what to do.
Valverde took his goals brilliantly but The Don, Dias, Guehi and O'Reilly seemed way off it at the back.

No surprise that Savinho was hooked at HT but i thought Pep waited too long to change the shape and get Ait-Nouri, Cherki and Marmoush on.
After The Don saved the penalty, we seemed a bit interested in scoring but apart from O'Reilly's unlucky effort, we didn't really trouble Courtois.
I thought we might go for it but we didn't look good until it was way too late.

So overall it was so fucking disappointing!
It was an embarrassment

Thought we wasn't that bad in first half but and big BUT one back defending at 0-0 suicide
Then second all jogging back suicide
Third shell-shocked
Front four away first leg = arrogant

I'm going to repost what i wrote in the match day because it's relevant to what we suffered tonight. I would imagine many of us some thar line up and thought it was a mistake and so it sadly proved.

It was a ridiculous lineup especially given the pace of Madrid and our high line that we persist in playing in spite of every team having sussed it out and anybody with a bit of pace in their side exploiting it time after time.
Nunes whos been arguably our best player benched, O'Reilly who's been our best midfield player shunted back to left back and Kus put st right back where he hardly plays, leaving a slow midfield of two, Rodri and Bernardo.
We have a plodding out of form Haaland upfront and Semenyo who's not technically gifted enough for the highest level. A passenger in Savhino who has incredibly been picked in a huge game based on 60 minutes against Newcastle, when hes been piss poor in every other game. All these changes have disrupted any sembelence of rhythm we've been building up and against top class wingers like Madrid have it was suicide. We'll be lucky not to concede more in the second half as we now have to chase the game.

Spot on, pick a solid defence with fullbacks and pack the midfield with Haaland on his own, Stink the place out if you have to and park the bus, let's be 100% here, Real Madrid are not the team they were and they are struggling

Pep has earned the right to say whatever he likes about the starting lineup and the result, but fans are also right to point fingers and ask questions ? That was all down to his mistakes and 100% he fucked up and nothing can gloss over the fact.

I can see what pep was trying to do - since Jude and Mbappe were out - he felt it was the opportunity to go 'full attack'. but his choices in achieving this were poor. Ait Nouri should have played. Nunes should have played. Cherki should have played. It is very frustrating when we have an otherwise very intelligent and street wise gaffer, but then he absolutely cocks it up for ZERO reason. The loss is one thing. But the reason for the loss is another. He simply cannot get out of his own way sometimes. And it pretty much always happens in the CL.

My hot take - If Pep had played Marmoush instead of Haaland then his formation/tactics would have worked. We’d have scored one of those half a dozen early flashes across the box and Real would have crumbled like they have every time they’ve gone behind this season.

We’ve been trying to play Haaland into form for 3 months now and it’s just not working.

Other than that the biggest flaw in the formation was Dias. If you’re going to play a back 3 like that you need someone who can pass like John Stones. Real just sat off us when Dias had the ball and he couldn’t do anything with it. Khusanov not much better but he’d have been ok with a ball player next to him.

This may not be particularly popular this evening BUT I actually thought we were alright first half and should have scored before Valverde started playing the finishing game of his career.

This tie can still overturned thanks to the penalty save.

Up the blues............... :-)
Agree.

We looked better than them until they scored and we just wilted. Attack ran out of ideas, defence all fell victim to the moment.

They can overturn it, but they really have to put on a performance that will rank as one of Peps best ever.
