Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

I’m not reading the thread because it will be filled with knee jerk bollocks but I thought overall it was a fairly even game. Their finishing was better and they got all the bounces. I think if Nico would have scored one of those two we’d have a real chance of going through. As it is it will take a monumental result but I haven’t given up.

Best way to play it. Reading comments on here it feels like a lot of blues don't have the heart to get behind the lads and see if we can get the result we need next week.

We have been spoiled by success in recent times. Had a poor season last time around yet still made a cup final, are in another one in a couple of weeks and have a group of young players who aren't seasoned at winning things and need our support.

Ederson, Walker, Gundo, KDB, Mahrez who were all key to our success have gone. Akanji too. Stones barely plays. Foden has lost form. Rodri only just getting back to his best. Bernardo in his twilight years. Most of those players weren't at the level they ended up at when we bought them. We have to support this new crop.

Some of the posts say more about the individual than the game tonight. I’m unsure which are real or fake, do Rags, bots, and soft arses only come out and complain on the after-match, forgetting to post and sleeping when we win?

We got beat in an away tie against one of the best teams in Europe, especially the CL. Our tactics weren't that of an away team and could be considered arrogant. We were rightly beaten by 3 decent strikes on goal.

Can we turn it around at ours? Yes, we could. Is it likely? No, it isn’t.

But I’ll still be watching ;-)
Exactly, not many giving RM any credit.
It’s not over til the fat lady sings :)

It's a completely new coaching line up to the one we had last season. I'm not saying they're great, but the problem feels deeper than that.
Pep Lijnders, Toure, only have a contract until summer, so next year could have new coaches again. I am hoping we get a 6 wheeled coach and we can smash into teams.

Haaland nowhere to be seen, he had one touch in the penalty box or game no shots. The players understanding of one another is abysmal in this team.
And you’re a tactical genius

Go and watch non league football to conceptualise “abysmal” in a footballing context

On another night Haaland scores three, not Valverde

I agree. I think Haaland has been found out and wherever he goes teams will know how to play against him.
Don’t think he’s been found out- he needs to do more instead of sulking. He had goals put on a plate for him tonight but he was nowhere near where he should have been. He needs sitting down and stop thinking he’s a superstar.

Have we actually been any better this season?

I’m not sure we have. I just can’t see this side dominating anything going forward.
I think we are improving bit by bit. Tonight, I'm convinced, was the managers cock up. Not for the first time this season a rookie manager has out thought Pep. What's lacking is the mentality and tonight we did not have enough winners on the pitch. Real Madrid wanted it more than us. Collectively the players are relatively new to each other and they are basically playing for themselves (bit like Spurs but a little better). We need to mentally become a team but as well as that the manager needs to pick a balanced team with all the players playing in their correct positions.

Atentamente.

Dear Pep, having seen today's disaster, I would like to ask you:

What the hell are you trying to prove? What shit of invention are you concocting in your fucking bald head? Fuck Man, wake up and stop bullshit! Or is it that your new specialty is helping rookie coaches, Arbeloa, Amorim, Carrick and a long etcetera. The most cave-dwelling journalist from Madrid was trembling in the face of a rising City, and you hit them at the tip of taste.

Maybe you've had enough of the wateriness of the Mancunian climate and prefer to drink the Villadiego ones, but you should say it clearly before ordering yourself to change; leaving a solid, convicted and confessed dressing room to resume the triumphs.

I considered myself a "happy applauder" in the fans' forum, convinced of your quasi-papal infallibility; but no more, I say enough damn it, and go fuck it up the ass!

Sincerely.

Sorry I translated it now

What even are we anymore??

A pep team without any identity, I never thought I’d say it.

We don’t press
We don’t keep the ball
We domt counter attack at pace

We have become almost a parody of ourselves.

There’s no fluency, most areas of the team don't compliment each other, we have technicians passing to speed boats, speed boats relying on snails for support, and weak followers lacking leaders.

A manger that’s thrashing around trying to find solutions to problems created by poor signings, and in the process making things worse.

A fan base, that is split between early adopters to the new norm, and those that are intent on still wanting to cite mitigating circumstance to excuse players who simply aren’t good enough to get back what we had.

What a killer that was…laid bare all of our issues..

Maybe but Valverde is a much better footballer. I'd swap them if Madrid Wer interested.

Khusanov is not a full back
NOR is not an inverted full back
Playing 1 in midfield isn’t the answer
Playing 3 wingers who hardly cross the ball isn’t the answer
Playing Haaland and not trying to pass to him isn’t the answer

Our mentality was weak tonight too. As soon as we conceded, our heads fell off.
The full back debacle is stain on the club.

A young CB, and flat footed midfielder as your two full backs after the money we have spent is a shambles

Criticism is not a reflection of lack of support although I would argue that the majority of criticism has been towards Pep and some of the old guard- which I would say is perfectly justified. Pep fucked up - a familiar story in the Champions League.
