Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Some of the posts say more about the individual than the game tonight. I’m unsure which are real or fake, do Rags, bots, and soft arses only come out and complain on the after-match, forgetting to post and sleeping when we win?

We got beat in an away tie against one of the best teams in Europe, especially the CL. Our tactics weren't that of an away team and could be considered arrogant. We were rightly beaten by 3 decent strikes on goal.

Can we turn it around at ours? Yes, we could. Is it likely? No, it isn’t.

But I’ll still be watching ;-)
You complained yourself, a personal attack on the manager, then complain about other fans doing so.

Wonder how long before you switch your telly off :)

Historically, Pep's obsession with playing midfielders at Full Back has left us exposed to the diagonal long ball and this has created chances for Premier League opponents (that aren't always taken) and cost us goals at the elite level.

Tonight it was O'Reilly for the first goal,. but Cancelo used to be vulnerable and Delph once cocked-up for a Rashford goal.

Madrid are a self-obsessed and slightly strange club, but they're always dangerous and we just can't afford to be so open on the counter attack as we were tonight

But if we do it will be a team like at Newcastle. Freeflowing football with players that can score. O'Reilly in midfield. Marmoush instead of Haaland.
Not sure Haalands 100% fit, but you’re right gotta go for it Tuesday. Pity it’s not a fiver and get the vocal fans in.

have real madrid hit on something not playing bell-end
They were all (bar Rudiger) all very, very good footballers. Even Courtois was dangerous with the ball. For me, I thought they were 'smarter' players than us. Brahim Diaz was more dangerous than any of our forwards. I think the return of Bellingham and Mbappe will probably weaken them collectively even though they are individually probably more talented.

We have been experimenting with Omar, Haaland and Semenyo a little bit now. It is quite experimental but there is a lot of potential there. Nunes has been brilliant for months. Just drill defence and overwhelm deep midfield. Let the front 3 do the rest. That is one option of many.

Best way to play it. Reading comments on here it feels like a lot of blues don't have the heart to get behind the lads and see if we can get the result we need next week.

We have been spoiled by success in recent times. Had a poor season last time around yet still made a cup final, are in another one in a couple of weeks and have a group of young players who aren't seasoned at winning things and need our support.

Ederson, Walker, Gundo, KDB, Mahrez who were all key to our success have gone. Akanji too. Stones barely plays. Foden has lost form. Rodri only just getting back to his best. Bernardo in his twilight years. Most of those players weren't at the level they ended up at when we bought them. We have to support this new crop.
All good points mate. It’s not just supporting them. Unlike a lot of the clowns on here I believe in them and I will always believe in Pep. I can see our next great team taking shape before my eyes. This crop aren’t quite at the level yet of the 19-23 teams yet but they will be very soon. We are seeing it in flashes already. I don’t think Madrid are any better, they just got the rub of the green tonight.

More attractive - yes
More effective- no
You don’t think it might be handy to have a player who can create his own chances and doesn’t need to be spoon fed like (current) Haaland does? Because that is the situation.

Personally, I’d be playing Semenyo up top instead of Haaland. Hes proved that he only needs a sniff to get a goal from inside the box. Love Haaland, but when he’s playing like this, whether it’s the team failing to find him or him failing to find the right positions, he’s a waste of space on that pitch and needs a long sit down.

O'Reilly is not a full back full stop. He was also responsible for the second goal in a similar way that Zinchenko, another midfielder playing fullback, was responsible for the Havertz goal for Chelsea in the CL final. Against top class opposition you need top class specialists not midfielders filling in.

There’s debating the game and then there’s attacks. Personally, whether I’m at the ground or watching the box, I never leave and take the good with the bad.

Fight ‘til the end.

And yet we’ve spent close on £500 million in the last year. If he’s only successful with the best players in the world, like you’re suggesting then he’s clearly not the genius everyone thinks he is.
He is a genius with the best players in the world. Thats exactly the point Im making. He couldn't win anything in 2016 bc the players were not of good enough quality. Not criticising him Im just pointing out a fact.

To a certain extent I agree 4-2 might have been a better reflection of the game. But had we played Doku and Semenyo wide and Nico G in midfield we wouldn't have been 3 nil down at HT. Amateurish from Pep.

I'm disappointed in this seasons Haaland the most. Doesn't seem strong or quick.

2 goals in 11 from open play is it? Something like that.

He's supposed to be elite level and yet he's been poor since around Oct.

Really disappointed.

Struggling to think of a game when Pep has picked a really odd team and formation, that wasn’t forced on him by unavailable players … and it’s been a success

There’s no getting away from it, overthinking in the biggest games is his glaring weakness

I think we are improving bit by bit. Tonight, I'm convinced, was the managers cock up. Not for the first time this season a rookie manager has out thought Pep. What's lacking is the mentality and tonight we did not have enough winners on the pitch. Real Madrid wanted it more than us. Collectively the players are relatively new to each other and they are basically playing for themselves (bit like Spurs but a little better). We need to mentally become a team but as well as that the manager needs to pick a balanced team with all the players playing in their correct positions.
Hard to build team spirit when you get dropped after having a good game.

I think he’s signed out for the World Cup

although we pushed them back laughable at 0-0 everyone in there half the pitch we never moved ball fast enough to play a couple of balls over top to run onto his strenght
