Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Everyone saw the Newcastle game and then the Madrid game. This Jekyll and Hyde performance is what giving me jitters all day long. A great team doesn't give a great performance one day and shit other day.
These are meant for clubs like Fulham or Newcastle and unironically Rags or Chelsea.
The Jekyl & The Hyde were two different teams!

Our problems this season are highlighted by our lack of technical ability.
You only have to see our set pieces and corners to see our players just fall short.
We've obviously been spoilt rotten with David Silva and Kevin decade.CTID
Our free kicks were good but our corners have never been amazing especially because 3/4 of our CBs can’t head a ball. Ake has a good header but can hardly get over the ball, Stones good header but is glued to the bench and Gvardiol is injured. Our set piece coach has the easiest job ever

Saw the line-up and wondered how the plan could possibly be playing 4-2-4 at Real Madrid. Then the game starts and it turns out we are actually playing 4-1-5 as Bernie pushes up nicely. Absolute madness

When you listen to pep after the game he baffles me with some of his answers to questions like we wanted to get Doku one on one, it’s like he is oblivious(obvious he isn’t) that if you have a slow build up pass back then slowly pushing up keeping possession what does he think the opposition do not get back and defend? Double up treble up on our threat on the wing then there centre backs mark Haaland!? Savino look poor because Madrid set up to not give him any space to run into! Sorry you have to play risky balls spread the ball instantly to give wingers that space!

Jeez, how disappointing was that last night.
We may win the home leg but i don't see us stopping them scoring & personally, i think Real Madrid will now go through comfortably.
I know next to nothing about football compared to Pep but that line up just didn't look right to me from the beginning.
Peps sides have always had that midfield control he loves but this squad just doesn't have that ability, it's weird, it's a very un-Pep squad of players, if that makes sense.

I still can't understand why we have collapsed so often in Europe in big games. Liverpool, Lille, Monaco, Real twice, Spurs etc and even Chelsea to some extent with a stupid midfield. All these managers have done a proper job on Pep. He still hasn't got an answer for the simplest ball of them all - over the top.

Last night was boring. No energy at all and once the first goal went in that was it, game over. We're lucky Donnarumma saved the penalty (ball over top like Valverdes first).

If every opponent causes us shit with the ball over the top, wouldn't you think we would try it FFS.

Honestly, in some ways I'm glad it's over as we can concentrate on the league. We have zero chance of scoring 3 and keeping a clean sheet.

Got to be said how -again - I've read on here how Camavinga, Tchoumeni, Vinicius, TAA and Rodrygo etc arent good enough for us! They'd all walk into this team.

Haaland had no service and didn't help by putting in no effort. If we can't get him playing we need to look at whether we cash in to strengthen the team. He's been brought in to win these games but he rarely is.

Ultimately, this is on Pep again. Another catastrophic CL battering. His tactics, subs and refusal to see what's happening on the pitch happened again. It took about 25 mins in this tie to lose it and that's shocking. Going to Madrid with that midfield was something KK would do on a bad day!

we ain't scoring 4 on tues, city should pay us all back for wasting our time due to ineptitude and a lack of heart ;-)

I wouldn’t put it past Arsenal winning a quadruple. Pep has sabotaged the team through his weird changes and he is playing every game with 10 men as we have a Norwegian piece of plank playing for us.
I used to think that too but considering they needed to dive in the last minute for a penalty just to draw with Leverkusen not to mention they've barely beat Mansfield, I think they ran out of gas. Bayern is winning UCL comfortably, the only stable and consistent club in Europe right now.

I thought I'd sleep on it, see if it would offer me any perspective but it hasn't all that's happened is a poor night's sleep and now I'm off to work.

The team selection was wrong, the tactics were wrong and now we have a mountain to climb. It's not impossible we go through but it is highly unlikely.

As we were informed numerous times they were injury depleted but they set out to use the players they did have to their strengths, they worked well as a team. We looked a little uncoordinated, unbalanced and unsure.

Valverde took his chances well but he was aided and abetted by individual errors and a set up that enabled him to profit.

Ah well, pity it was Madrid we enabled and not someone else.

Madrid absolutely packed the middle of the park, especially when we went forward, reminded me of a boxer controlling the ring, win the ball and exploit the massive gaps, we were not only out played we were massively out coached.
They seemed to a plan for limiting Doku's impact, which effectively meant leaving our least skilful player (Khusanov) in acres of space

Time and time again, Doku would beat Arnold and sprint through the gap between the covering defenders
However, rather than shooting, he'd pass inside to Rodri who would then open his body and slide the ball to Khusanov, only for the ball to end up back on the halfway line.
