Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

If Valverde can score 3 goals in 23 minutes, we can score 5 goals in 90 minutes. It's highly unlikely that we could eliminate them, but extremely unlikely things happen in football all the time, such as Valverde scoring all 3 goals in a big CL game.

I think we'll try very hard in the 1st half at the Etihad. If we manage to get a lead in the 1st half, we'll try in the 2nd as well.

With pep we know he will think everything through and he believed that team would get a result. Think pep didn’t expect how Madrid played plus the individual mistakes pep can’t do anything about that!
we've all seen the hoof over top and not a defender in sight before though west ham will be working on it

Well i generally agree with you there, we do need positive thinking ..... but we will be the ones playing the pressurised game, and sweating buckets under the Etihad floodlights to do it .... Real Madrid can just keep every player back in their defensive zone , bar one player maybe providing an outlet upfield, safe in the knowledge that they don't even need to score and we have to net at least three !

If we get an early break in the 2nd leg then anything is possible, but the longer it stays goalless the wider the grins will get on Real Madrid faces.
Your last paragraph is exactly what I'm saying. The atmosphere needs to be like a cauldron, the team need to be at them from the off. Real being Real won't want to just sit back and defend, they will want to try and ascert their dominance and show off, especially the likes of vj. IF we got a goal in the first 10 mins and built up a head a of steam we could definitely have a chance. We've beaten a far better Real team 4-0 in the past at the Etihad.

When we keep making the same mistakes it goes beyond blaming individuals. I remember the long ball over the top making us blow a three goal lead against Feyernoord last season. United and Bodo utilised it earlier in the season as well.

The consensus then was that it was due to injuries and young Max Alleyne playing. However, last night Pep has his pick of our strongest defenders bar Gvardiol. Yet the same mistakes happen.

The risk/reward ratio Pep has this side playing is borderline negligence. Khusanov misplaced a pass and Vinicius was one on one with Donna for their penalty. Pep will argue that if Khus makes a proper pass then It doesn’t happen. Many will look at think why the fuck are we so open at the back. It’s not like overloading the front has any impact from an attacking sense.

Building a new squad which is, in March still in 4 competitions, including a final of one of them.
Clear second in the PL with a chance of winning it Progressed to the quarter finals of FAC
KO rounds of UCL
Last season despite all the injuries still finished in 3rd and got to a cup final
Nothing like Wenger
Sounds exactly like Wenger

That's not borderline negligence, it's an enditememt of our own attacking play that couldn't fashion chances.

Perhaps instead of standing hands in pockets, Pep could of made changes? Obvious after 20 mins how it was going! Should of had Nico G and RAN on ASAP for Savinho and Silva and put Nico O into midfield

Wouldn’t give Pep another penny. He doesn’t show any signs of learning from mistakes.

Just win a trophy and bow out gracefully

In commentary last night the pundits were spunking their pants about Madrid saying it was their best performance of the season but what I saw was them working their collective bollocks off in a low block and springing quick counters sometimes as their first goal with a hoof over the top.
Yes fair play they beat us 3-0 but was it really a stellar performance or spectacle?
Everyone plays the same way against us because they know we are susceptible to the counter as we play possession football with a high back line.
In my opinion we had too little champions league experience in the starting 11 & no attempt to change it in match which is on Pep
We’d have been better off playing against Mbappe, Bellingham, Rodrygo etc as they would not have pressed as well as the players who came in for them.
Pep needs to get the team selection right next week which means making some difficult decisions with regards to our bigger name players and then we need an early goal to get the atmosphere going

We know pep he ain’t making changes in first half!

I think it all depends on the team Pep picks.
