Real Madrid (A) | CL | Post Match Thread

Cherki must be baffled. Sat on the bench most weeks while there's players being picked that couldn't lace his boots

As for Marmoush, he's a handy player but I don't imagine he would have too much joy as a regular starter alongside players who create nothing like Savinho, Reijnders etc..

The Newcastle game was an anomaly.

Unless we get players in that can create, then the likes of Haaland and Marmoush will be feeding on scraps up front.
He can score, run a game and get fans off their feet but Savio plays one good game for the first time in months and he starts against Madrid.

I’m convinced Pep doesn’t rate Cherki. Any other couch would be salivating if they had our squad

I am just getting sick and tired of the tinkering. Every time we have a modicum of rhythm and perform Pep has to make changes again and disrupt the flow. I get that we have to rest players etc and should play are strongest players but we should play our best "in form" players !

It's so fucking frustrating.

In commentary last night the pundits were spunking their pants about Madrid saying it was their best performance of the season but what I saw was them working their collective bollocks off in a low block and springing quick counters sometimes as their first goal with a hoof over the top.
Yes fair play they beat us 3-0 but was it really a stellar performance or spectacle?
Everyone plays the same way against us because they know we are susceptible to the counter as we play possession football with a high back line.
In my opinion we had too little champions league experience in the starting 11 & no attempt to change it in match which is on Pep
We’d have been better off playing against Mbappe, Bellingham, Rodrygo etc as they would not have pressed as well as the players who came in for them.
Pep needs to get the team selection right next week which means making some difficult decisions with regards to our bigger name players and then we need an early goal to get the atmosphere going
I had to reach for the sick bucket when McPointy referred to them as “Los Blancos” at half time. A bit embarrassing cos I was in the Cart & Horses at the time!

Who wouldn’t miss a David silva in there side, hard, very hard to replace, i don’t know who could but that’s the sort of player we are needing. A baller, a player that can thread intricate passes and break a defensive wall. Haaland feeding off scraps.

We all know what will happen now though -

Pep will be focussed on overturning the deficit in the second leg, so will pick some weird team/formation vs West Ham, so we will end up getting beat and lose ground (potentially) in the title race.

Then, with a strong side out vs Madrid next week, we go three goals up, then concede in the last minute, so go out of the tie anyway.

Purely focus on West Ham for me and a title challenge

Correct.

RM were nothing special, and the 1st Two goals, possibly 3 all were assisted by City errors!!!

1st half was mainly played in the RM half!!!

Created chances, but wrong end choices or no one there !!!

Penalty 2nd Half came from City corner and us giving the ball away, stray pass !!!

High Line was not necessary with only 1 RM attacker and back 4 also!!

I could go on, but I won’t.

Quick start and early goal required next week :0)

Exactly and just hammered across.

Haaland getting the grief and he isn’t the problem. Release the handbrake and play more balls forward for our strikers to have a chance.
The players we have now do not suit the ‘possession is priority’ game.

Also, We never seem to have enough players in the box to get onto Doku’s crosses, that’s if they do get past the first defender. Savinho rarely ever puts in a decent cross and he should never start ahead of Cherki, Foden or Marmoush for me.
Doku had three on him - a sign that Madrid feared him. Delivered a couple of decent crosses that no-one got on the end of. But for me, our other players have no idea what sort of service Doku will provide. Normally, strikers get used to the service from wingers and are making the run before the cross comes in. I don't think Doku himself knows what he's going to do - brilliant at going past players then the rest is pure instinct.

I don't think Savinho's performance against Newcastle was as good as is being made out. He was merely better than he usually is.

Then after going out due to the last minute goal, get beat by Arse at Wembley due to all energy expended. West Ham most important game now followed by Carabou Cup.

When you look at the 22/23 Champions League. RB Leipzig (H), Bayern home and away, Real Madrid home and away and the final. Only 1 change to the starting 11 in all of those games and that was Kyle Walker for Ake. Now I know the quality of the squad isn’t the same now however it’s pretty obvious even now pep doesn’t know what his best team is. We should have a go too 11 for our big games. Who can successfully predict our line up vs Madrid next week? It’s always a guessing game. Then we wonder why performances like this get thrown up.
