Real Madrid (H) | CL | Post Match Thread

All season I've been slamming Ait-Nouri for being too easily drawn to the ball, like watching an under-10 match - he did it again for the first goal. A proper left back would never have allowed the shot in the first place.

No penalty, no red for Bernie.

You just can't compete at any serious level without natural defenders. I don't watch post-match coverage - I assume that RAN was panned for this, was he?

Disagree entirely. It’s a deliberate handball stopping a shot on goal, it’s always been a red. The ref signalled the offside call when asked by several players what the current decision is, he then immediately put his hand out to say it was being reviewed.

We might have had a handball shout ourselves but would have been soft, and they could have had another penalty. Other than that they got a lot of shitty little 50/50s that fucked me off.

That is why football is bent, the 50/50 calls that always go against us and at home too
The officials are scared of Real Madrid and have to give them the advantage. Last night referee is a well-known hater of City and Pep, I don't think we have won many games with him as referee

If we had taken our earlier games more seriously, and finished a few places higher, then we wouldn't have played Madrid in the Last 16 unless they had performed even worse.

Arsenal got an easier run because having finished top, they deserved to get an easier run.
Tbh, you may as well treat the league phase as just one extended random draw - don't expect to be rewarded for finishing higher than another team, because there are too many variables.

It's a cup - you should be prepared to have to beat everybody.

PSG finished the league phase in 15th last season, in theory a soft draw for Liverpool, who topped the table.

And as for the conspiracy theorists out there - I haven't heard anybody mention Madrid's route to the final, should they make it?

Ait-Nouri was great last night
Sometimes Pep wants the impossible with the fullbacks ? he wants them tucking into midfield or going on the overlap. It's so easy to point fingers when we lose, but not from last night's game, everybody gave it 110% and should take a lot of credit

Ok - but what about that first goal - watch it again and tell me why you disagree?

None of what you posted addressed it.

I've been 'pointing the finger' at this all season, whether we've won or not.

We were great last night all things considered - apart from our woeful finishing. How the fuck a professional footballer can hit a shot 10 yards over the crossbar or wide is beyond me.

It's called Bad Luck ?

We are in a bad run of luck and nothing seems to fall our way, You can see the players snatching at every chance because they are desperate. I will say that when it turns, and it will, then somebody is going to get it

Look at the big picture. We are a team and win and lose together
Their first goal was the pen and he was defending the goal like he should

I've commented on this in other threads recently. It's shocking how bad they are, and shameful how long it's gone unaddressed.

Arsenal will destroy us from corners unless we spend the rest of this week practicing our defensive setup for them. It's so easy for the opposition to find space. We don't track people, we don't defend the space either. And when we have them we seem to have no strategy for what we're going to do. Haaland isn't the best in the air granted, but he seems to sacrifice himself by just standing still in a certain area and the quality of our deliveries is generally pretty poor as well.

Last night we ended up taking them quickly and even then didn't put the ball in the box because we clearly know it's unlikely to amount to something.

Missing the goal by miles game after game isn’t about luck. It’s not as though there’s always a divot when the ball is struck. How many times have we had 25 shots and about 6 on target?

Proud of that performance.

If Bernie stayed on the pitch you know they would have parked the bus because we looked up for it.

Sometimes we have a limp performance in us, certainly can’t fault the work rate last night.

I was in a pub full of neutrals and everyone applauding how City play football. Nice to hear that instead of well how much did he cost, what about the 115 etc etc.

Yes, I know that the first goal was the penalty - that's the passage of play I'm talking about.

Don't worry - you clearly want to avoid the question, or you have never seen a proper defender.

In what way was he possibly displaying any defensive instinct whatsoever?
